New Social Media Tool - Ideas

Hi everyone!

I'm an experienced programmer, with some background on social and network analysis.

It's been almost six months since I started thinking on developing a new product, but still I haven't quite figured out exactly what to do. I know I want to develop something related to social metrics.

Thing is, as I am not an experienced marketer nor have I any friends with such knowledge, I don't know what kind of info/insight/service could be worth for them (you). So... I thought on the Warrior Forum.

What info/service would you like to see, related to social metrics, that is not yet covered, or not quite as you'd expect?

Any help will be much appreciated

Thanks.

Create a tool that makes it a cinch to find passionate users on XX topic.

Enter search term -> the tool spits out a list of users who frequently discuss it along with a with a "passion" rating from 1 to 5 or something.

We can do this manually by stalking hashtags, but it takes up a lot of time. We can also find influencers on a given topic pretty easily, but they are harder to get traction with. So the tool would have to filter out Twitter users with large followings. It would aim at middle sized accounts.

Your market would be content marketers and social media managers.

That's a nice feature to have Ghoster, thanks!

Do you ever analyze your network? As in: "ok, my competitor has this type of followers (opening a few followers), so I should target this kind of people". Something like that?

There are a few like that that finds latest people on different networks using hashtags to find them. Yours idea adds few filters and very useful. How would you monetize it though? Maybe sell monthly subscription service to people looking for certain things?

        Ghoster: thanks again.

melvinsh: to be honest, at this stage I'm more focused on creating a great product -on concept, at least- rather than any other thing, as monetizing it. That'll come later, though I might anticipate that I'm becoming a big fan of giving things free, as much as possible.

Could I bother you with some links or names on those tools that find people (thanks!).

This is the way to go. Build a quality product, give a lot of features away for free, expand your feature list and then start charging slowly. I know it's a long road, but it can be very lucrative. if you build a quality product, we will be loyal to you.

          I'm always game to test.

Thanks man. I'm creating a list of people that, if I finally put something together, I'll give them first releases and full-feature access, on test but also final stages. Ping me if you'd like that to alejandro.pedretti at gmail.

            BTW: recovered my old account.

Anything that saves us time in this business is worth paying money for. Most tools are on a monthly fee model. Hootsuite Pro is only $10. On the other end, Raven SEO and BuzzSumo Pro are $100 a piece. They each make up a different piece of the puzzle. Obviously services vary widely in price

Sure. That can be time well spent. Twitter Analytics has a similar feature, but it shows you who else your followers follow. It's a great resource because those people tend to be influencers.

I think the passionate users is a great function if you can pull it off. I'd also like to see a group search functionality with activity level metrics.

Couldn't get the group thing, what would be that? (meaning, a group of what)
