How do Facebook Ad Interests work?

Hey all,

Thanks for your help. So I'm looking at audience insights→Likes. I found a sub-group of interests that will help me target passionate buyers. My question is this:

Should I remove my primary interest from targeting or should I add the new interests? Does Facebook take interest order into consideration? What I mean is, let's say the first interest I specify is "Minecraft." My next interests might be a group of clothing retailers. Will Facebook understand that I want to primarily target people who like Minecraft?

Or is it Minecraft OR (other interest) OR (other interest) ?

Thanks for your help. It's really appreciated.

I'm pretty sure it's an OR equation. I don't think you can do AND equations, though that would be nice.

You can technically get and combos in there, but not for interests. You can do professions though. "Likes minecraft and is in the military"

Thanks guys. Well that sucks . So if I go with more than one interest, I'm probably diluting my targeting.

Yeah, the way that I've narrowed my audience is mainly by education status and field of study. So with my example, it would be "Minecraft AND studying to be a psychologist." or w/e.

However, an "and" equation seems like it should be a pretty basic feature .

    More questions:

Right now I have narrowed my audience down to 40k, and I can take it down to 13k by setting relationship status to "single." (The ad would still be relevant and maybe even more so) Am I going to be charged more by having a super targeted audience?

This is for Teespring. I'm going for conversions with a tracking pixel. Linking directly to my Teespring URL. Oh, that reminds me of a second question:

I have my own website set up as a shop for our designs. Can I link to there from my ad and still use the conversion pixel?

It's crazy that they haven't implemented this yet.

Your starting bids probably won't be much higher but you'll need to rotate through ads constantly as you'll saturating that audience very quickly.

Thanks. Frequency is something I was wondering about. I guess once it gets to 2% the ad has done what it's going to do.

I'm selling a specific shirt to a specific audience, so I don't know if rotating ads will help. I can try different colors, though.

We had targeted around 500,000 people in a limited run and got a CTR of 1.77%, but no conversions. We got likes and shares, though. Sample size wasn't very big. I think we need to try the "laser targeted" audience approach, though.

It's a shame we can't use UIDs. I missed that gravy train .

I see that we can still upload emails. Any point in uploading scraped @facebooks emails? I assume FB would shut us down at some point if we did that. What about building a lookalike audience with those?

Another good trick is to include hooded sweaters, V-necks, regular fit and women's t-shirts and run ads using each of the different varieties of shirts as the image. I've found that I can sometimes rejuvenate a lagging ad campaign by uploading a new ad with a picture of a hoodie.

I'll run the ad so the customer clicks straight through to the hoodie. It appeals to people who want hoodies and opens up a whole new segment of the market. Plus, I'm pretty sure some of the people who clicked through originally don't see the hoodies there and don't even know they're an option. For these people, a retargeting ad with a hoodie works well.
