Facebook Conversion Tracking Pixel vs. Optimized Conversion Pixel

I noticed that FB has recently added the Optimized Conversion pixel below the regular conversion pixel. How does the optimized one differ from the regular pixel?

If you want to track conversions that happen on your website as a result of your Facebook Ads, you can create a conversion tracking pixel

Ad optimization: Optimize your ad delivery and ad spend for website conversions. Once you've created a conversion pixel, you can use this in combination with the bidding option "Bid for website conversions" to show your ads to people who are most likely to convert.

I'm still confused about a couple of things:

      1) Why would you need to create an optimization pixel to work with the bidding option when selecting that option should already send you traffic that is known to convert?
      2) Why are you given the option to use a different optimization pixel than the conversion pixel you've selected for that ad?

The Facebook Conversion Pixel code has been updated to allow advertisers to track multiple pixels within the same web page. Previously having multiple versions of the Conversion Tracking pixel on the same page caused collisions and led to data loss. The new code also makes it easier to track in-page actions such as clicks on a button.
