I got over 1 MILLION views last month on YT and made $1 on my website.

Is it really bizarre to be making 25 cents a day on my website when my youtube channel is bringing in millions of views a month? Keep in mind the website is a video blog so does not have much written content. The idea is just like how searching for keywords in my videos, brings you to my youtube videos, my website should also show up. My guess is my VIDEOS are ranking well on YT but my webpages are not doing well in Google. More details:

My brand is 4-5 years old and my website has been up since 2011. I make about 25 cents a day on my site and $20/day on YouTube. My website averages 150 views/day and YouTube does 14,000 views/day. My content is very visual and is best in video format. My website mostly features my best videos with a brief write up. Top videos get a more detailed write up and on the YouTube side, I point to website from any popular videos for links to more info or follow up videos.

I feel like I'm missing out on a LOT of profit. I thought you make more money on your site than on YouTube because YouTube takes so much money.

I don't promote the website in any way, other than from my YouTube channel. That is ALL I do. I do videos and then I create pages on my website that feature those videos. I add a catchy title like I would for the video, then I add keywords. That is it. No link exchange or anything of that sort. What am I missing?

Also, might it be worth it to hire some kind of e commerce adviser to help me make my site profitable? I've got all this traffic and I feel it's being wasted.

How are you even monetizing your website?

I have it linked to adsense, so Google ads show up.

You should connect your google adsense account with your YouTube account. Show ads on your videos. This will make you profit.

I'm already doing that. That is my entire point. On YouTube, money is flowing and views are flowing but my website is a graveyard. People who have no audience will be like me because nobody knows they exist. My confusion is I have a huge audience so why is my website not benifiting? Also am I wrong in thinking the real adsense money is from your website? My thinking is YouTube is taking a lot of my profits so if I could even get half the traffic I get on YouTube I'd probably close to double my profits? Am I wrong?

I just can't help but think I'm missing out on a huge potential. I feel like I'm trying to start a modeling agency and I have Naomi Campbell working on my logo design. I'm trying to find out what the "DUDE, you better make Naomi your spokes person ASAP!" thing is for my situation. I'm already using every excuse I can to send people to my website sending people ANYWHERE is tough. Most of my traffic on videos comes from people finding me in searches and sometime MUCH more comes from YouTube suggesting my videos. This means I'll only be able to trickle a small amount of my traffic over to website.

It was same thing with facebook. I'd do a video on YouTube that does well there, then post and promote on FB and see next to no traffic come from FB.

Expecting half of the youtube traffic to actually click through to your link is a fool's dream bro.

Let's go with real world numbers here. Let's say your videos are really good and your links are placed well. Say 5% of that traffic visits your website.
That's like 5,000 visitors to your site if I'm not wrong? Now depending on content and ad relevancy and how the ads are placed and say you are able to get a hundred of those to click on your ads.... And depending on CPC $1 might not be too bad here

=> Use adsense with your video
=> Promote something that makes you good money
=> Adsense is good for humor sites, not much for most others...

I was told long ago you should only ever use Adsense as a place holder for blog ads - so many more profitable ways to monetize a blog, banner ads to clickbank products relevant to your niche, CPA offers etc

If your website only has videos, how does it offer anything better than watching your videos straight in youtube?

    Start writing content might help.

I'm not big into writing. I'm a video guy. The benifit of the website and purpose is I get control over layout. I have hundreds of videos and YouTube makes a mess of packaging it all. You can only really find my videos in search or if you subscribe and you get notified. However, if you want to browse my channel...good luck. Even I have trouble finding videos.

I already have way too many playlists on there so I've exhausted the YouTube layout.

Here is my point though. You say what value do you get there? The same you get on YouTube, so why does YouTube get all the traffic? I know why it get's the traffic from YouTube recommendations but what about the people searching in Google?

how's about trailer in YT then full-length in your website?
or low-res on YT then high-res somewhere else? like Vimeo?

Not a bad idea but again it's hard to send people anywhere. Once they arrive they want to watch and go. They don't want any links to anything else. The next move they make is usually based on YouTube recommendations. I had a viral video and i pointed over to my website and only small portion trickle over to website. Frankly half the people are gone before the video is halfway done. YouTube is ADD haven.

      Hi visualfxpro,

1 million views a month is a lot!

What are your videos about? and how many videos do you have on your channel?

If we have more info, we can give you better advice.

About a 1000 videos. I have channels that give information about cars and motorcycles and also technology. Most views come from 10% of my videos. The popular ones.

          Wow - that's a ton of videos!

It sounds like you're already monetizing the video views with ads, is that right? (although $20 a day does not sound like a lot with that many views)

If you are, then another thing you could do is promote specific affiliate products that would appeal to your audience, depending on each video and its target audience, of course.

They don't have to be digital products, either, they can be physical products - you could link to any Amazon product as an affiliate, for example.

Another thing you might consider is - rather than send people to your website, put a strong 'call to action' (using YouTube Annotations on the video itself) and a link in the description to send them to a very focused squeeze page that gets them on your list, this way you're building an email list (that you can build a relationship with, over time)

It sounds like the traffic is very "hit and run", so to speak, and so you need to capture them while you can.

Also, check into your video analytics and see what percentage of people are viewing your videos from Mobile devices - this may also be affecting how many people end up going to your site from YouTube.

You're right, this should be a good money maker for you, you just need to find the right "flow" or funnel for "capturing" those visitors onto a list and then offering things they want to turn that list into income.

I would lean toward the squeeze page / email list, though, because even with a small percentage of people opting in, you should be able to build pretty big sized NICHE lists in a short period of time and that, properly cultivated, can bring you some impressive income.

            Lots of good information!

My channel is kinda unique in that I do recommendations so I can't just do any affiliate. It would have to be limited to products I recommend. For use nothing that I would not use myself.

You can add link into video description and drive traffic to either your website or landing page of affiliate offer, which is relevant to your channel niche. Do some research, and avoid common mistakes, like placing affiliate link directly. Good luck!
