Using Twitter for a student college club
I am a medical student and the web designer for a student professional club at my university that is dedicated to interprofessional education. There are four medical colleges at my university - Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Public Health.
The purpose of our club is for students from the four colleges to meet, learn more about our professions, attend speaking events that are related to interprofessional healthcare and share information on the web. The problem is that we are a small group and every semester we might have 1 or 2 people who attend a few meetings but then they will join another club. We are also not well known in the campus community.
When I joined the club this semester, my plan was to create a website for the group and then use social media to promote our website and thus promote our club. I created the Twitter account and followed everyone that I could think of from our university, but we haven't seen a rise in membership at the club. Additionally the comments and retweets that I have see are from students and faculty members that are already involved with the club.
What can I do to increase our online audience in Twitter? What are several ways to use Twitter in an educational environment for promoting a student organization? Thanks!
