Let's not mistake this for saying that all posts you make on your Facebook page will not be seen in your fan's newsfeed. Actually, if you read what's being said here, it looks more like 'install app' type posts will disappear as many Facebook users complained they were spammy or annoying.

The social network announced that starting in January, it would reduce the number of posts made by brand pages, such as pitches to install a new mobile app or tune into a TV show, that appear in the news feeds of its 1.35 billion global users.

I think in the long run Facebook will regret this. People may start shifting to other networks, and they'll find ways to attract their followers too. Facebook is becoming very difficult for markeeters and I don't think it can benefit from this in the long run!

Which one? People changing their favorite social network just to follow a company in another one?

Ya, it's not likely regular users are going to switch there social network just so they can be bombarded with ads from I.M.'ers.

      I'd have to disagree 100%

If you knew the types of #s people were bringing in from FB, your perspective would be in a different direction.

But hey, if you don't want to be a part of the fun...

      It's more everyone else

I'm still lost as to how people are making money from FB, Can you tell me what the most popular ways to make money with them are?

From the point of view of the average Facebook user, this is a really good thing. After all, the reason Facebook is making this change is in response to average users complaining about the 'spammy' posts in their feeds. Most of us have gotten those feedback surveys from Facebook where they ask us to rate the usefulness of a particular post. Most times, I'm more interested in seeing something directly related to my niche (such as industry news that might affect my site) or friend news, rather than spammy 'install this app' type posts. I can see this situation from the point of view of the internet marketer who is upset over not having the same 'free' exposure on Facebook as before. Just another good reason for the marketer to move their efforts over to Twitter and Facebook, rather than griping over the situation.

The problem Facebook is having in my opinion is they want people to buy likes from them instead of using third party software for there pages and i agree we should buy them from Facebook because we know they are real and like the niche you have and it seems Facebook are really pushing the [ages and businesses to get set up and start pages etc but and it's a big BUT...
Facebook are taking the money and finding the likes but then not showing the people that liked the page the update that the page owner puts on !

It's like me saying give me $500 and i will find you 4000 likes, Sound good ? ok but the bad news is when you have these likes that i find i'm only going to show about 50 people your update ! still sound good ? oh and organic likes...you can forget about those as well !

      I think NOT Facebook.
Facebook could make a lot of people very rich very quick and them self's and potentially get the economy back on track due to people buying things on there pages in turn making the page owners have more money etc etc blah blah i'm going to shut up now but you get my drift ?

Facebook is now in it for the money even more and themselves no one else that's my opinion.

The major problem I have with this is if I like a Facebook page and want to see the content this page is producing then I have to constantly run over and look at the page because Facebook won't allow me to see the content in my newsfeed anymore.

I think most marketers are going to be using their personal page as a "get to know me" area and drop a link to a website or capture page for their people and then rely on email marketing beyond that.

I think this update will affect the spam related posts, like 'install my app!' ads that are so frequent on feeds. Those are clearly spammy, especially if you don't want to see them. As for the posts, that can be annoying as there are times when I want to see what my favorite page is talking about. Then again, you can just enable notifications from that page too and then you'll never miss a post.

      • I was reading an article the other day about how advertising platforms come and go.

The idea was that as soon as an advertising platform becomes very popular, the cost of advertising on that platform starts to grow until it reaches a point where it's too expensive for most businesses, and that's when a new, cheaper advertising platform arises and becomes popular.

Having said that, while it's absolutely true that organic reach is declining on Facebook, paid ads are still very cheap, so if you have problems with your organic reach I'd recommend to give ads a try.
