Do people actually use Linkedin?

I know many people connect with others on Linkedin including myself. But does anyone actually read posts, engage with others, and conduct business there?

I'm getting ready to start a company and need to engage and connect with real estate professionals to build relationships and promote my product. Is Linkedin the best place to do this or would my time be better spend elsewhere such as Google+ or Facebook?

It works really well if you find and connect with people within your environs.

Your reputation and expertise matters too.

Linkedin is one of the places where professionals from different walks of life hang out.
I must say, it works but do take lots of time to get there..

I have around 400 connection on there and a great reputation but I have never even used the platform really. You can connect with others by hitting the connect button. And endorse by hitting endorse button. But is it the best for building b2b relationships and if so how?

  • Linked in is a lot like FB in that you need to reach out an msg. others. Create real business activity by asking others about their service or specialty and perhaps engaging them. As mentioned join specialty groups to focus on specific aspects of your business.

Like any other social tool you need to be a farmer and work that soil to grow results.

Yes, LinkedIn is the best platform for promoting your business. Connecting with people alone, doesn't let you to engage users towards your business. But participating in others discussion which are relevant to your business, liking others posts, joining groups relevant to your business, starting a discussion on groups will help you in attracting people.

I agree with all the YES's! Question to ask first - are the people I want to connect to on LinkedIn?

If they are, treat it like going to a party or big networking event - who do you want to meet? What are they interested in? How can you provide them value in what they are up to?

Leave the sales pitches for later.... after they have had a chance to decide you are really about being of service to them.

      Great advice =)

They are definitely on Linkedin. But it's about the same numbers for Facebook. I know Linkedin is more for professionals but it seems like people hang out on Facebook a lot more and interact with each other. That's why I'm having a hard time deciding where to put my focus.

LinkedIn has become very oversaturated with people like third-party recruiters sending out mass messages. As a result, users have become more and more dismissive of others' posts on the site. However, if you post quality content and treat your followers (and the user base as a whole) with respect, you should still be reasonably successful.

All the answers above are true. LinkedIn is a great place to meet professionals from all parts of the globe and connect with them. Aside from finding and building relationships with others, you can also find big opportunities for your career here.

It depends. I use it as an extra social website, but its primary purpose is to connect "professionals" in their field.

Since I can use it as facebook and twitter, so why not? It's free anyway.

People all over the world choose different social platforms so it's a good idea to be everywhere.
You don't know when you're gonna hit "goldmine" relationship!

    Yes, we do!
It's better to make connections on LinkedIn. This is a very professional site. It's good to have your business up here but at the same time up on FB too!

I have a lot of articles on marketing there, you can check them. Some of them are already featured as a LinkedIn article.
