How do YOU use LinkedIn?

I've been a social media addict for as long as I can remember. I am very well versed in all the popular networks — YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. However, there is one network that I simply cannot grasp... and that's LinkedIn.

From a branding and marketing perspective, how do YOU use LinkedIn? Do you use it to promote your work? Network with others? A little of both?

I'm interested in hearing your ideas.

You can create a company page on Linkedin and you can also create personal profile page on linked in. Advertisement is available as like Facebook. You can also post your content on Linkedin.

Use Linkedin like any other social network.Build relationships and joint ventures with people in your niche. In my opinion,Linkedin is better for marketing rather than Twitter or Google+.

I use LinkedIn mainly for networking and selling. I'll join relevant groups and engage in discussions but if I am honest, a lot of them are quite spammy.

From a selling perspective, I search for individuals and connect with them. Then I'll have a few back and forth messages to find out more about their business and see if there is a way I can help. I have managed to pick a few clients up from LinkedIn but it isn't easy.

Very interesting. I like the idea of personally connecting with individuals. I'll look into that.

Thanks for the info, everyone! I think I might create a business page for my website. Marketing on Twitter and Facebook is nice, but it doesn't feel like I am making any real connections there. Hopefully I will see more positive results on LinkedIn.

Definitely give the connections approach a go. As long as you identify the right people within a company to connect with you'll do just fine.

It's more professional and serious than other social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook. This is the platform where you can promote yourself in terms of work and career.

In LinkedIn, you can manage your professional identity, build and engage with your professional network. You can access knowledge, insights and opportunities through your networks. It's more on professional networking.

I am not a fan of that platform myself, but you can definitely create a logo for your company and connect with people there!
Upload posts from your blog onto your profile.. that way you'll get more exposure and generate leads!

I guess I must be contrarian to most people as I've found Linkedin to be more and more powerful from the point of B2B relationships than any of the other social media platforms.

Usually the people who want to contact me are professionals or other business owners and there is not a lot of clutter or waffle going on like in some other platforms.

If you are selling to business, wanting to establish a serious business profile or presence then Linkedin is becoming better for me although I generally don't post much or market much in the space which suits my work schedule fine.

I tend to do the most business in Linkedin by just being there and responding to PM or industry specific groups where I can offer expert advice that helps other business people.

Just lately I've learnt so much about getting on company boards and networking with individuals of influence that I'm pretty impressed with the results it brings.

      ^^^^^ This...

Linkedin is great for B2B but not so much for B2C.

One thing you need to think of when using groups is that you need to look at groups where your customers are going to be found. The natural inclination for people is to join groups that are in the same business as you are. Now to a certain point that can be a good thing but if you are looking to pick up customers you need to interact with those customers.

Before doing a whole lot the first thing you need to do is create a profile of your ideal candidate and once you have that you start thinking about how to find and interact with them.

Do not be spammy, be helpful and you will find you can pick up some good clients.

We can use it for both purpose i.e. promotion of your work and for making connections. It is the only social media build for professionals, you can easily increase your professional network here. It is also and important platform to promote your business. It is a great platform from career point of view.

I use Linkedin for building connection, friendship and relationship to people that based on job and professional.

With Linkedin, you can look for people who have the same professional with you or are in the same business with you.

You can also use it for finding and hiring new employees and also looking for a new job.
