From my experience Pinterest.com, Diigo.com and StumbleUpon.com get indexed the fastest. However, none of them are do-follow links so you won't get that much link juice from them. If you want to try a growing social bookmarking site that allows Do-Follow and organic search engine traffic check out Papaly.com.

I would recommend you StumleUpon, Reddit, Delicious, Scoop it, Pinterest amd Slasdot. These can help in increasing traffic and in improving ranking for your website.

Unfortunately, Digg is no longer a source where you post your blog post or article. Seems like they only accept a small fraction of story submissions.

Reddit, stumbleupon then maybe delicious. I've seen no benefits from others these are the best for traffic from little effort. Stumble can be a waste at times though. Reddit and Pinterest drives thousands of visitors to my site every month.

Typically you want to refrain from using any type of automated software and make each post unique. There is a wordpress plugin called NextScripts: Social Networks Auto-Poster that allows you to do so.

I'm not exactly sure if I got it right, but is it possible you're asking for a plugin that can help you? I'd say installing a plugin like "simple share buttons" or similar is a great help. Readers will read your articles and if they like it, they can share it on social media.

I think that the effect of social bookmarking on SEO is a thing of the past. When this was among the ranking factors of a page, marketers started exploiting this with bulk & mass automation tool and thus Google, in lieu of keeping things "natural", discarded this.

However, social bookmarking does have benefits on its own w.r.t traffic & virality. I think these are the most recommended social bookmarking websites:
Reddit (specifically if a content is funny, controversial, cute involving pets)
StumbleUpon (Have seen a lot of traffic coming from it for "fashion" concentric content)
Digg (I have seen a number of people experiencing immense virality if their content got "upvoted here)
Delicious
