Facebook group as a membership-area

Hello everyone,

I'm currently creating an infoproduct with a membership-area as an upsell.

A private Facebook group could be a good option because people spend a lot of time on Facebook. This means that the engagement will be high I think. Everytime a member makes a post, the whole group will get a notification. This will keep the group very active.

The problem about using a private Facebook group is that the payments can't be done automaticly. When a member quits, I have to delete the member out of the group manually. In the beginning this isn't a big problem, but when the number of members starts to grow, it will be.

I could use a Wordpress site, but I think the engagement will be a lot less. This is one of the most important things in the beginning of setting up a membership-site.

What are your thoughts about it?

Thanks .

Facebook is a great place for having masterminds, small groups, and yes even memberships.

You're right, as in the beginning, it will be pretty simple to boot those who aren't up to date with payments...

However, once the members in your group expands, thus making it harder to boot specific people...

Isn't that the kind of challenge you want to have?

Using a FB group as a membership area wouldn't be a very good idea. It seems really amateur and insecure to boot. Get a membership plugin like Wishlist or S2Member and run with a proper members area. FB groups are good for masterminds...but not members areas.

Yes facebook groups are much more engaged than regualr forums or membershp areas.

So yeah i think it's definately a good idea.

And i have 2 myself and a forum too so i can see the difference.

That is a problem you want to have. You want the amount of members to grow so big you can barely keep up with the cancellations, etc.

WIth that said, when it gets to that point, you should be making more than enough money to pay someone else to keep up with that aspect of your business.

I might used the wrong word. It isn't the typical membership-area that contains content, but it's more like a paid mastermind group .

Thanks for your thoughts though .

In that case i think it's better to use membership software, because if people pay for it they will be enough engaged already.

And as you know, there are already enough free fb mastermind groups around to make it attractive enough to pay a fee for to join.

If you do this on FB, make sure you keep copies of all backups and such just in case they wake up one morning and decide you are breaking their TOS and shut you down.

Also make sure that they have a way to contact you outside of FB just in case your personal account is banned. If the group and you all the sudden disappeared, you may have a real problem with a bunch of chargebacks and unhappy customers.

From a strictly personal and anecdotal point of view, my experience with Facebook membership groups is excellent.

Interaction is great, members supportive, and the ease of using an already existing system that the members are likely to be logged into already outweighs the issue of manually doing the mundane tasks
