Has Facebook changed their 20% text rule ?

I've noticed over the past few weeks I've been getting ads appearing in the Newsfeed section of my FB page, which clearly could not comply with FB's 20% text rule.

I can't figure how these ads. are getting approved.

Has FB changed the rule on this or something, or have they somehow slipped through?

I also sometimes slip through some ads, you can do that and get by, but remember that they can still disable your ads in retrospect, I hate getting the notification that 10 of my ads have been stopped... it makes me sad

They haven't changed it. I got a message they'd disabled one of my ads yesterday. The funny thing was it was an ad I'd run last year and it's been turned off for weeks.

This 20% rule deserves an award for being the most stupid and ridiculous Facebook thing. But still it's alive & you have 2 options:
    1. Ignore the rule, cross your fingers and hope the ad won't be disabled
    2. Follow the rule & use the Grid tool to make sure your text got the right place.

But they are perfect at charging you twice to reach your already paid likes

There is something about the 20% rule that I find a bit confusing. Say you have a product you want to promote and most of that product has a text heavy label on it. You have used 20% text on your ad excluding the product image. But when you put in the product image, will they consider the label on your product as text too? Or not?

From what I understand is if you had say an e-book, and then you added that e-book cover image into your ad, if the e-book cover had text on it, then that is counted as text in the 20% rule.

It's a totally screwed up rule.

What happens when you submit an ad and its got more than 20%? Does the ad go live immediately or does it get reviewed first? What happens if your ad has more than 20%? Do they warn you with a possible ban or what?

In case your ad has more than 20% text, then after the initial review process, it's marked as "Not approved" with the descriptive message that this ad has violated their 20% text rule. To re-run the ad, you have to adjust the ad visuals and re-run the ad in that ad-set.

20% rule still exists. Though at times, your ad may get approved by Facebook but those are rare exceptions.

I have seen a couple of the big name gurus lately - exposing their "best converting" facebook ads

I sat there shaking my head thinking - no way are these images getting approved - way more than 20% text on them

I've seen exactly the same thing which prompted me to raise this.

Maybe they are spending huge $ on ads, so FB is turning a blind eye. Who knows.

I think Facebook should maintain a neutral policy whether one is spending meager amount or in bulk. As I said that exceptions do occur even in my case when I am running ads of clients on large scale. Sometimes, ad gets approved. Most of the time, it isn't
