Social bookmarks and signals question for a website

Hey fellas its Tim here,

I just want to ask a couple of questions about social bookmarking and social signals. I have tried searching for relevant posts but they dont exacly answer my questions.

Ok, say I have one website with 5 posts, I would like to do some SEO to, and I want to create some social bookmarks to places like reddit for example. I'll be using others too.

1: Would it be ok to use reddit to submit my 5 website posts on? Or is it better to submit only 1 post to reddit, and diversify my other posts to other bookmarking sites? The same goes to places like Youtube, if its better to use 1 post or ok to post all 5 to 1 channel/account? I just didn't want it to look too suspicious to google.

2: Should my account name for bookmarking site be 'website name' or 'persons name'?

3: To do with question 1, is it ok to submit one post from different multiple websites to reddit or other bookmarking site? I have heard good and bad for both ways (one website per bookmarking site - which has all post submits of 1 website, or bunch of posts from other websites to one bookmarking site).

4: Social signals - What is the difference between someone liking/sharing my post from my social media icons on my website, compared to liking/sharing on acual social site (copying the URL and posting it on social site)?

5: Is it necessary to have social media icons on my website?

Sorry for the long first post. I'd really appreciate if someone could answer these questions as its been bugging me for a while and will help with more peices of the puzzle.

Cheers!

    1. Reddit is very picky with what you bookmark so try to stay away from posting links from the same site. They prefer to see bookmarks from various sites and also try to keep your link descriptions interesting. If you do post links from your site spread them out over several days with bookmarks to other sites in between.

With Youtube as long as your video is unique and not infringing on any copyright, then you shouldn't have a problem linking to your own sites in multiple videos. Yes, keep your 1 account and channel strictly for videos related to your website.

    2. Keep it simple and just use a standard username. People like to be social with people not companies, so when you bookmark something they'll feel more comfortable its from a regular person just like them instead of some company just trying to promote their stuff.

    3. Depends on the bookmarking site. Like I said above, Reddit is very strict, when it comes to their bookmarks. Other sites like StumbleUpon have no problems bookmarking from the same site multiple times. Just keep the bookmarking to 1 particular site to once a day.

    4. It's the same thing just makes it easier to share your post. Instead of opening lets say Facebook and copy and pasting the link to your post on their wall, they could just click a button on your site and share it instantly.

    5. Like I said it makes it easier to share your content if you do, so I would highly recommend it. Visitors nowadays expect to see those icons on your site and if they don't they'll think that your website is out of date and probably leave.

Hey Alex, cheers for your response!
It explains a lot. I have the social media icons on my website too.

Just got a couple more questions.
I have 2 websites at the moment, they are both authority websites (or am building them to be), 1 I have someone doing SEO, and the other I will be doing SEO myself. They both target really low comp keywords. Going from the SEO report from 1 website I am trying to replicate it.

Basically how he did it was like this, over a period of 1 month, with days of no or little backlinking in between.
Social signals from g+, twitter, facebook.
Social bookmarks, he used a bunch of bookmarking sites and submitted posts to it, on the same bookmarking site there are posts from other websites he has submitted too.
Video sharing, youtube he has 1 channel with multiple videos from different websites.
Document sharing, once again 1 username/channel with mine and other posts posted to it.
Some guest blogging, redirects, and tier 2 links as well.

I was wondering if I could rank my website using the above method, but without guest blogging, and redirects? Tier 2 will come later. Basically it will be all high pr website submits to bookmarking sites, audio/video/document sharing, social signals etc. All only a couple a day with days of rest in between, and use my accounts to have other website posts as well so the sites im applying backlinks dont just have a bunch posts from 1 website.

Please let me know if im on the right track and any other ideas or tips?

    Cheers!

All I can say to that is when you have a system that works, in this case an exact method that's ranking your website, keep duplicating that system. Do everything the exact same way and if that means guess blogging was one of the strategies used then do it. Don't get lazy or else all your efforts will not pay off.

I find that you have to be very careful with Reddit or you will be wasting your time. I find a sub reddit that I post relevant information to. I started by posting answers and relevent information for a couple of weeks.

Then I would add a post with a link to my website. I treat Reddit like a forum. I have done it slowly and it has worked for me. I do get a decent amount of traffic from Reddit.

I still occassionally get an a*hole who doesn't like a post and will flame me or dislike my post. But this method hasn't got me in trouble with Reddit.

If you just add links without adding content you might be banned. That is what almost happened to me in the beginning.

Submitting unique and interesting content in different platforms is the best way to do and having social signals will tell the search engine that your site or page is engaging with its targeted audience.

    1. For Reddit, I must say that it is a tricky part for placing all your site in it.

    2. If you are creating a branded bookmarking, then at that particular moment you have to use your site name at the place of Username or Screen name. Else, you can also use person name.

    3. Well, Reddit is very strict for that particular matter... it's not about only Reddit, it's the rule of all site that they don't allow a site to repeat in the form of bookmarking.

    4. It's a matter of call by action. It's nothing but making the person to hit on it for enhancing your site in more detailed manner.

    5. It's depend upon you that which type of services or site you had created. If you want a promotion for your resources and get some good amount of money from that, then it's a very important part for your site.
