Do other countries have Facebook Spotted: Pages?

Here in the UK most towns/cities have their local Spotted pages. An example of the page name would be:

Spotted: Birmingham

Although they are generally narrowed down to area and neighborhood names. I was just wondering do other countries have them? If not, you should start the trend; they spread like wildfire here and I know my local spotted page is the BEST WAY to reach out to the people of my town. It is immensely popular.

What is it?

They are basically just pages that update the residents of the named town/city/area what is going on. Common posts are: Police/Fire incidents, Lost property trying to be reunited with its owner, Local businesses advertising offers & rates, Local events promotion & Local news (people being nosey, E.g Loads of people on East Street, whats going on?)

My local page has become so popular and is updated so often that you know exactly whats happening around town. You usually hear about incidents that have happened 2 or 3 streets away from you on facebook before seeing it with your own eyes now. Infact, the page recently got into a 'posting war' with our local newspaper because it would post news almost instantly as it happened as opposed to the newspaper posting the next day.

Dont get me wrong it has its bad points, people slating each other etc. But from a marketers point of view for a local business (or anyone actually) this is a way to reach out to your local population with a single post. The local population love to engage with the page because its personal to them; its updates on what is going around themselves and their families.

Enough of what it is, does it exist outside the UK? I've just done a quick search of some random places I know and I can see a few exist but aren't very popular. These pages are extremely popular in the UK.

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ONE I SUGGEST YOU CREATE ONE. The admin of this community page has (potentially) marketing influence over a whole area/town/city/neighborhood.

Sorry if I rambled on, I didn't expect to go into this much detail when I started this post lol.
