Is taking pictures from the net and putting it on your twitter a violation of copyright?

I am just wondering where people out there get their wonderful pictures with photoshop modifications etc when most are not graphic designers.

The short answer: Yes it is copyright violation, and those people are violating the copyright of course.

    Or

They are using free royalty images. You can find quality images which are royalty free to use, even for commercial use.

Just to clarify, "royalty free" doesn't mean the image is free to use. You still have to pay a one-time license fee, but once you pay that you can use it multiple times for different things (as outlined in the license agreement) as opposed to paying a fee for each use of the image. So, if they're using those "royalty free" images without paying the license fee, it's a copyright violation.

If that's what their terms and conditions indicate, then yes. But if you notice, they aren't advertising their images as royalty free. I'm referring specifically to "royalty free" images, and the inherent confusion that typically accompanies the "free" part of that term.

Yes it is under copyright and violating terms of services. Use CC-licensed images from Flickr or buy from the stock photos.
Editing somebodies images is also under law so don't use unless you own them.

Yep it is, but you can find free licensee photos on Google. In Image Settings, Select the license to be free for commercial use, you won't come up with a lot of variety though.
