Facebook announces page like count drops coming

Those of you who woke up this morning and checked your Facebook insights for their Facebook page saw an interesting message that doesn't bode well for like counts. The message informs Facebook page admins that on March 12th they may see a reduction in the number of likes they currently have on their page.

"We've recently updated the way we measure how many people like your Page. Pages may see a decrease in likes after March 12, when we removed likes from inactive Facebook accounts."

Your Facebook page likes are about to drop

And why is this a bad thing?

Why would you want likes from inactive accounts? The only reason would be if you paid for your likes, which was the worst investment you could've made.

This is great news for all those Facebook pages that did social media the right way and have real likes from real people.

I think they should continuously remove inactive and even more important FAKE accounts. I only want the likes of my page to be real people that are interested in what I post.

Uh-oh for those who invested money in buying likes... Especially if they invested a lot. I don't know if this is a good or a bad thing, but it was bound to happen at some point.

  • I think That'll be great. A bit cleansing on FB is really needed. You can see on Fiverr.com people with gigs saying '' 100k likes for $5 in one day''. They loot their customers with unreal likes and defaming the true marketers.

It may impact some business models, but the majority will be fine. One example: update sellers.

Now the services about FB likes will starts not $1 for 2000 likes, but $20 for 1000 likes. And the likes will do with FB ads may be.

I agree that's a good move to remove likes from inactive accounts. It may decrease the number of likes but numbers from engaged fans are far more important that just vanity numbers anyway.

This is probably for the better. You may have 100,000 likes on facebook but if majority of them are inactive, its pretty useless. Also, it would minimize the buying of likes which may be the best thing that will come out of this action.

  • I think this would be better in the long run. Targeted ads would be more effective if inactive/fake accounts are removed.

  • This seems a good thing after all. If 10000 people liked my fan page and 9000 out of them were fake, I won't get any benefit. But if I get 1000 genuine fans then I can do more with less and that also guarantee that If I get likes in the future Facebook will be cleaning out their site and I'd get only genuine fans who like my fan page.

Good job for Facebook. This is a lesson for pages who bought likes which is just a bunch of dummy accounts.
