Buying likes for FB page - why am I getting killed?

Hi everyone,

Back in the day (2 years ago) I used to buy likes for my FB pages (using FB ads) and it was easy. I used to get likes from top tier countries for about 6c each. I built up some really successful fan pages that way.

Recently I decided to start boosting a new fan page. I copied my ads so as to use the same overall settings as before. However now using "optimize for likes" I set the bid to 7c per like and it gives me an exclamation mark saying "increase the bid to 84c per like".
84c!! You've got to be kidding me, Facebook. Who on EARTH is going to spend $8400 to get 10,000 likes to a fan page?? That's ridiculous and no way could I earn that money back from 10,000 fans. Surely no-one in the world spends nearly a dollar per like, why are FB even asking for this much money??

How to get the likes for under 10c.... anyone?

I`m not the biggest FB expert ,but it depends of the niche.
I`ve heard before ,that if your ads are targeted by city/region ,you will get 2-3c per click.
Not sure that this works anymore...

Just get likes the organic way and never pay Facebook again.

Provide value to your audience and share to related groups in your niche.

Engage with them and build strong relationships by liking, sharing and commenting on their posts.

Reach out to them and compliment them on their content and they will love for it.

Be consistent and your likes will grow naturally.

Thanks, but no thanks. Building them organically from scratch doesn't really work for me. It's just too much small potatoes.
I have over 4 million fans on my other pages, so I know.
I don't really do this on a small scale.
I have all the proven content.
I have an outsource team to handle the comment moderation, posting cycle, all of it.
The only thing needed is to blast the first 50,000 likes. Then it will grow organically.
But these days, if you only have a small page, growing it organically is painfully slow.

The rules for buying Facebook likes have changed quite a bit in the last year or so. Personally I think buying likes is just a waste of money nowadays as it lowers the engagement of your posts and only provides likes from fake generated profiles. Boosting your posts proved to be a better idea but I'm not sure how that works with bigger target audiences.

This is not what the OP is talking about. The problem is Facebook ads, and the fact that they charge a lot more now for 1 like than they did before.

Your right on growing organically for the most part - and you're right on prices being different!

I realize you want to scale fast (I did the same a few years ago) but what I find works best now is all the regular stuff 'be niche, specific' and test a SHIT load of ads....

BUT - I find keeping my budget lower helps keep my cost per like lower as well...it takes more time but you can still add 100+ or more likes a day (while keeping costs low)...it's slow i know...but it ads up over time and starts to snowball...

It's based on demo size, the larger the demo you can spend more of course.

From my experience with getting likes from ads (I'm doing it right now), don't really set your own bid. Just do optimization for likes and if your ad is good enough, you should get a pretty good price per like. I'm getting around $0.09/like, and I've gotten down to $0.05/like with other niches as well.

    Good luck!

Great tip. So, set it to auto and then focus on split testing ads... thanks will give this a shot now.

Choosing just optimization for likes will not fix his problem. You will get lower price, but for sure not enough.

I do facebook marketing for 5 years now, so I guess I can give you one tip.

First of all build your perfect customer model. How to do that?

      1. Who buy your product? Who is interested in you offer?
      2. For what kind of opportunity is he looking? What he tends to click?
      3. What kind of information is he looking for on Facebook?
      4. What do he read, what do he like, who he follow?

Find interests on facebook according to that. You can try smaller ones as single targets or you can use Audience Intersect to implement whole model into your targeting what I like the most. As long as you do your research correctly you can go even below 0.01$/like.

      Hope I helped

Testing optimize for likes, automatic pricing. Using the same ad that I used before that got 6c likes.
USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, NZ. (the big 6)
Likes currently rolling in at $1.84 each.
    This blows.
However do they even think for one nanosecond that anyone is going to pay this much for a like?

What makes it worse is because of the way Facebook is now the chances are that 1 person wouldn't even see you updates either ! lol no matter how engaging it is

Facebook wants your money but doesn't want to show your content anymore, oh and organic growth is virtually none existent now with facebook even they have come out and said it.

I still get likes for .01-.03, just do some testing. I let FB do the bidding to start and then I'll split test interests and different ad images to see which get the best CTR and then run with those. Start small budgets of $5/per ad set to start, let FB optimize then slowly scale them.

Things change with FB a lot, so what you did in the past probably doesn't work anymore.
