Google is not even investing any more into G+ and the guy that was in charge of it quit so if you were starting today do you dive in anyway or just pass?

While it's not the most preferred social media platform posts from Google+ do help with your SERPs so it should definitely be a part of your social media strategy.

  • I've been on G+ for over a year now and I do wonder if it's still worth the effort posting stuff there. But then I figure since it's there might as well keep my account alive and active, I'm hoping to still get something out of it.

All I can say is, there are still a lot of active people on Google+ and that makes it important to my social media strategy.

Google+ definitely can't compete with Facebook & Twitter, but it offers a number of SEO benefits, like Google Authorship, Google+ posts are well ranked and it impacts Google's local results. So, for now, I don't see Google+ dead and will go on investing in it mostly for SEO purpose (and marketing of course)

Google+ profiles do have some perks in getting ranked/indexed by Google. You increase the odds of getting highly targeted visitors from Google’s organic search results if you have a Google Plus account.

Similar to Facebook’s “like”, Google has “+1” votes. The more +1’s your pages and posts the better. Those social signal votes, let Google know that what you’re sharing is being read and shared. Google+ profiles and pages can have a significant impact on search rankings.

  • It's worth joining as your goal is not to get real viral effect of what you are sharing. Google+ gives some SEO benefits as it's owned by Google.

Also your profile it's linked to Youtube so every video you comment on can have your Google+ profile and you get more exposure.

That is a great point. If YouTube and Google Plus are both part of your social media strategy, you can get a lot of 2-for-1 benefits.

Well, I use Google+ for personal and client purposes on-line and it is the best social channel for SEO and connecting with actual serious industry players. I love it!

Yes. Despite the fact the Google is not showing much love on their own social network, we never know what they have in mind. I guess keeping your account is still worth taking the effort. We never know what google decides to do with it. Also, a lot of IMers are still active there, so go for it.

It is still a good idea to spend some time on your G+ account, although you may not get a very good result. But Google might keep visiting your G+ account if you are active and post great content, hence this can get you some traffic.

If the guy in charge of the project quit, it doesn't mean Google + isn't working anymore. People still use it so, in terms of traffic and all that, why give it up?

Google does not look likely to end Google Plus any time soon. However, they do seem set to split it into two services (or possibly 3), so it might be important to understand how that could affect your strategy. Here is an article from The Verge:

As much as it doesn't seem to be as popular as say Twitter or Facebook it still helps in terms of SEO and also exposure as well so I always say you have nothing to lose by joining now and using it for that purpose.

Fantastic points just what I needed.

I tend to create social profiles all themed to a brand but I will eventually sell that entire brand later so sometimes that is a good strategy for gaining exposure and networking but for the most part can not really be transferred over.

Google+ may not be as popular as Facebook and Twitter but the fact that it is owned by Google I think we should include it to our internet marketing strategies. It won’t hurt us to spend a little bit of time promoting on G+. Anyway we’ll never know what benefits we’ll get from keeping our accounts active in Google+.
