Is Facebook a waste of time?

Social Media is indeed a waste of time. It's a fake digital world where a lot of people wear masks. Take the "vacation" photo's for example. Where people just snap their 2 fingers in front of a screen. Or the "10000 likes to cure my cancer" to "Mommy took my xbox and I need 200 likes to get it back". Or be confronted by pictures of a small baby with an open chest surgery picture on it. "This is timmy, he needs a new heart, share his story now." If it was just social media it'd be a lot better. Now it's Social Pressure. I've deleted my facebook because it's horrible, overhyped and unsecure.

The moment Employers started to check people's Facebook accounts instead of their Resume's it became clear that Social Media turned into a psych evil without proper credentials.

Indeed, it depends on how you use it. If you wanted to kill time half an hour is enough. Don’t waste your time scrolling; most of the posts are paid ads.

Employers don't check facebook "instead" of resumes...

They check it "in addition to" resumes.

    Big difference.

Funny thing about Facebook - I've got Facebook pages for three different Websites of mine, in three different niches. The newest one is in the MMO niche. Just reviews of products and tips for helping people work from home. That page is relatively new and has no likes. I've run ads to get more likes for the first two pages, but just haven't gotten around to doing so with the MMO page.

Facebook has been nagging me incessantly to run ads in order to increase my likes and my exposure on that particular page. Yesterday, I finally gave in and set up an ad....which they refused to publish, because...

..."Ads for “work from home”, get rich quick and other inaccurate money-making opportunities that offer compensation for little or no investment aren't allowed on Facebook. This includes pyramid schemes or other money-making business models which do not fully explain any product or opportunity that makes a claim of income."

    A couple of thoughts:

    1. That doesn't describe my page or my site at all, so it doesn't really apply.
    2. If my page isn't one for which they will run ads, why are they pestering me to run ads?

I've yet to find Facebook useful in any way. The only reason I have pages there is because people expect me to have pages there.

For me, it's just a nuisance.

I don't believe Facebook or any other social media website is a waste of time. Social media is a great source of traffic, a great way to get yourself noticed and to gin more fans / followers, it's also a great way to build a relationship with your fans, so it's definitely not a waste of time.
You need to ignore the "10000 likes to cure my cancer" to "Mommy took my xbox and I need 200 likes to get it back", it's not that difficult.

The thing about Facebook and other social media is that they are a great tool if you know how to use it.Facebook can be a great source of interesting facts and new knowledge, Twitter is great for sharing information in real time, etc. If you don't like the posts you're seeing on your timeline you can always hide them and prevent them for showing anymore. Social medias are great, but only if you make them that way.

Fake Facebook pages are a waste of time.

But it is so easy to see which are fake and which are not.
I have 11K followers, all real, and they give me 10K visitors a month on my website.
And each visitor brings in money!!
My followers, like, comment, share and interact with my Facebook website.

So is Facebook a waste of time?
NO, but doing business with people who offer you likes is a waste of time and money.

It depends what you're reffering to. If you're using social media like a normal user, to interact with friends and share stuff then I agree with you 100% it's a total waste of time designed to keep your there and loose track of time completely.

If you're refering to using social media as a lead and traffic generator then I must disagree, it's great for this purpose and if use correctly can grow your business a lot.

I think pages are now a waste of time. Since Facebook began monetizing their pages and making people pay to have their posts seen, you'll get less views with more of an effort (and a dent in your checkbook). Instead I'd opt for Twitter and Pinterest- places where you can directly interact with followers. Keep a Facebook page for good rapport, but not for advertising.

is Google+ a waste of time? Is twitter a waist of time? The viewpoint to figure out the waist of time starts with the questions:
      Why are you on facebook?
What are you using facebook for?
What do you have to share?
The potential and power of graph search for targeting is very powerful.
When you get a chance lookup the tool interest Architect and check out the video.

Spending hours on Facebook browsing through everyone's you know and barely know's status updates and photos, yes, it's a waste of time.

However if you are talking from the point of view of a brand, a company or marketer, Facebook can be a very beneficial communication channels. Its good if you use paid advertising or if you are just popular there with a lot of followers.

Posting into some marketing groups abour your business is useless. When i started online business i pisted in like 100 money making groups my business, and from all together there were abour 500 000 users but only 300 from all 500 000 visited my site... There are so many people and they are posting so much posts that your post is on top only for like 10 seconds.

Used properly its one of the best ways to market and build relationships, the traffic is very high quality and targeted. It allows you to share and people will trust you and buy from you. Used wrongly it is no doubt the worse thing of all time I have seen it destroy families and relationships and make millionaires. The choice is yours.

@essmeier saw your other thread and shared with you my experience.

    In Reference to this message:

"Ads for “work from home”, get rich quick and other inaccurate money-making opportunities that offer compensation for little or no investment aren't allowed on Facebook. This includes pyramid schemes or other money-making business models which do not fully explain any product or opportunity that makes a claim of income."

    A couple of thoughts:

    2. If my page isn't one for which they will run ads, why are they pestering me to run ads?
    "

I have been promoting a solid offer (not the typical IM/MMO offer, get rich quick scheme type of thing). A product I believe in and use, that gives a lot of value to the subscriber, yet FB disapproved the ad.

I fought with them many times and had my ad running for a while. Then I received this email that my account has been disable for policy violation. Hope it is temporary.

My advise stay away from convincing them if your ad has been disapproved for the reason you mentioned.

    My two cents.
