Anyone get banned on Twitter for "...repeatedly follow and unfollow people."

Twitter's rules say: "If you repeatedly follow and unfollow people, whether to build followers or to garner more attention for your profile;" is considered spam.

Anyone know how much can you get away with? I currently follow and unfollow about 50 people per day. I've done this for about three months now. Can I continue to get away with this? Anyone ever get banned for this reason?

Try to do it in way that appears random and definitely don't follow over 100 people a day. If you're using automated software then they can and will ban you. The first time they may allow you to appeal but after that they will ban your account if you continue.

I've been doing this for years with different results.

What I've found is that the general rule is to follow around 10% of the accounts followers. So if you have 1000 followers already try adding 100 per day or so. If you have a new account then stick with 50 per day or so. Try to make it not look automated by following at different times per day, following an odd number per day, etc.

Using SocialBro (great tool for following by data) I've added around 200 per day on one of my accounts without issue.

Can you share the benefit of doing something like that?

It's a good way to get followers. The key for this to work though is that you have to target a demographic and only post interesting things to this market. Don't post promotional links when you are in building mode. I usually get about 20-30% of the people I follow follow me back.

It would do you good if you follow at random intervals, just to make it appear like you're really interested in whoever it is you're following. Also, old Twitter accounts doesn't seem to have that kind of rule applied to them, but then again, who am I to know?

I didn't know this would be considered spam on Twitter. What exactly would they do with your account if you are increasing your followings to much?

They would suspend your account. I've had this done to one account I had because I was starring a couple hundred posts at a time. I was able to get my account reinstated by emailing them. I wasn't promoting anything on my account though. All my tweets were giving value. So they may not reinstate an account that is just promoting stuff.

I know about the rule but have no idea what the limit is, maybe following & unfollowing 50 people a day is not a lot, but maybe don't do it on a daily basis? From what I noticed, the thing with social networks is you're better off making things look as natural as possible. About 50 is probably a reasonable number though.

I don't understand why people will follow then unfollow. It doesn't make sense, it doesn't HELP you at all, it doesn't give you any advantage. The only thing it does is show people that you don't follow back. Having 10K followers but you only following 100, doesn't make you look cool.

I use crowdfire to unfollow people that unfollow me, immediately.

But to answer your question, you can get away with 200 or so a day with no problem even on a new account.

      Actually for twitter.

Summary the aim is to get many people follow you right?

Because I do noticed others also doing the same...follow and unfollow
which we are also doing thus don't have any benefits of it...since most IM are doing this
