How can I use Twitter effectively for my business?

This is going to be rather unusual but I can't think of any way to mask my business as something else and still have you be able to assess the situation and offer relevant advice.

My wife is a webcam model. And before you have any snide remarks about that, remember, she's the one doing what it takes to make money and succeed. Many of you that wish to be hateful about this may very well be the ones who are still struggling to make a dime working from home or for yourself.

At first, a month or two ago, she was only working two hours a day and she would make a good $100 - $150. After we saw that this was consistent, I decided to quit my day job so that she could work more while I took care of the children. (I was salaried at $29,800/year, not that great.)

Currently, my wife works four hours a day and her income has plateaued at about $250/day. This is great, really, but she chooses not to work many days more than needed to make our bills and have a small amount of spending money on top. I, though, am not content with coasting on the same income, very little savings, and little spending moneys. Whereas I don't dream of extreme riches, an extra $1,500 or so a month would be great to help us move forward in life instead of just sitting still.

That being said, I can't make her work more, and I can't increase the money she makes when she does work. But, I have taken over her Twitter, email, and I manage other outlets we use to make extra income such as video/merchandise sales websites.

Her Twitter currently has just over 2,000 followers and she gains about 50 per day, more on days she works. I have been reading a lot about engaging followers on Twitter, but I don't see any of the methods applying for my niche. There's not a lot of valuable content for me to link to on our Twitter, starting a blog would be virtually non-profitable and creating unique content would be difficult because there's not much to write about in this industry that potential customers would care to read, and I have read to promote products less and master engagement for best results on Twitter, but without promotion I'll get very little traffic to the places that matter.

This is a unique situation, unlike that of someone who owns a niche blog or online store and wishes to promote through Twitter. A shoe salesperson could have a blog and write more valuable articles than that of a webcam model impersonator/copywriter. I just need advice on how to take advantage of the potential of our growing following.

    No judgment here.

This could be a tough one. At the same time as far as "adult" goes, Twitter seems to be the place. I come across a lot of cam models just in my daily work. As well as quite a few fake/spammy "model" accounts.

So- 1. I would say to just be as authentic as possible. Try to set her apart. She's obviously making money as it is. Does she have a certain look or niche that she appeals to? I'm not an expert on cam model economics, but in order to make that money she has to have a willing audience, right? There's something about her that appeals to her audience that sets her apart from all the other cam models people could be interacting with.

Are there other models that have established followings that maybe she could emulate? 2000 followers is a good start, but how targeted are they. That's pretty much the "easy" area as far as just about anybody can get to 2000 with following/unfollowing and a little maintenance. Once you get there you can usually only follow 10% over your followers number. So it becomes a little tedious to do the follower/unfollower thing.

"I have been reading a lot about engaging followers on Twitter, but I don't see any of the methods applying for my niche. "

Think/expand on this. If anything I would think customers would be more engaging in this niche. I mean, I post about things like industrial generators and commercial telecom on a daily basis- not so sexy things. When she posts pictures and things, do followers respond? Even if it's just a favorite. Does she thank people for following/RTs? Or would that scare people off? I don't know, I've seen people openly comment on hardcore pics on Twitter. So I don't think all of the potential clients would be too sensitive/embarrassed. Does she do things like say "Thanks for sharing my pic. If you like that, you would really like... whatever"? I don't know, just spitballing some thoughts here and it might not be anything you don't do.

Back to the 2000 and growing. The 2000 might not be enough to do much. Maybe she can grow by following followers of similar models. In general in social media, I believe highly in sharing and in marketing in general sometimes you give away a little to get a little. I think she has to try to exploit whatever her appeal is that will get people over to her cam shows, and try to find that audience based on their behavior with other accounts. Look for similar models with a lot of comments, thirsty dudes, etc.

"creating unique content would be difficult because there's not much to write about in this industry that potential customers would care to read, "

I don't know if I'd be so sure of that. I imagine there's a lot of fantasy appeal and companionship element for the customers that goes beyond the skin. I'm not saying people want to read about her getting her nails done or dropping the kids off at school or even too much about humanizing cam models. BUT, blogs have a very low cost and barrier to entry and I imagine there's some way to use that to your advantage. Maybe show some teaser stuff there and prominently feature links to her cam (don't they have banners and things she can use, clips, etc?).

I guess right now you just link directly to her cam shows on Twitter? Do you have some sort of analytics/tracking they provide that lets you know where the traffic comes from and what % converts, etc?

"I have read to promote products less and master engagement for best results on Twitter, but without promotion I'll get very little traffic to the places that matter."

Engagement leads to growth and more traffic. At least it can. If you are just promoting the same links to the same people over and over it has diminishing returns and people get ad-blind. I've had some clients that really didn't "get" social media at all and pretty much mandated self-promotion without any effort at interaction or growth. The results were predictable. Social media is a modern form of marketing, but marketing is nothing new. If she's sharing content (and content could be anything from a PG-rated picture of her to a text-graphic/meme, whatever. It doesnt have to be an article) that is appealing and relevant to what makes her unique and people spend money on her, then it should lead to more audience.

WELL, I read your post over again and I realized you are saying she is working as much as she can already. So I guess she's at a limit for that. I think that might be even more reason to have a blog or something that could bring in a little extra through ads/affiliates. Or just work on increasing her following so there are more options. Or I could be way off base everything I've said because it's 3am

Are there other ways she can monetize her main thing without working more? Can she make money for referring people to the cam site in general without cannibalizing her own (doesn't sound like an issue)? Do they pay for referring other models? I've seen all these sorts of things around. Without getting into it too much I do some marketing for a softcore site and also get checks from a well-known affiliate programs. I see a lot of cam model ads. There are also things like dating programs and other adult affiliates she could link to. Maybe something fits well with her demographic.

FWIW, there's a male adult performer who made the mainstream media (well, mostly sports) a little over a minor controversy a few years back. I read a little bit of his blog and some posts on marketing forums. He claimed that he made really good money managing Twitter accounts for adult actresses. He offered to do it for free in exchange for being allowed to post affiliate links periodically.

      .
Unfortunately, since there are so many cam girls in the world, the only thing that really sets her apart from the rest of her competition in her niche is her individual aesthetic. As much as I hate to say it, I don't think her personality is generating too much income, haha. She is a prime example of her niche, she just has a different face than the rest of them.

I've been avoiding following people back because I feel as though a good follower/following ratio is key to looking as legit as possible. We follow 17 other models, currently. I don't suppose it would be a bad idea to follow our competition's followers in hopes of follow-backs.

No, we don't usually thank people or shout out for follows, but with what I've been reading today on engagement, I am going to begin doing so. Makes sense.

Traffic to the blog would be driven from Twitter or from her live shows. So it kind of seems counter-productive to do so. If I could create good enough content that traffic came from the SEs and then lead people to her Twitter or cam, that would be great. But, as for now, my minds a blank!

Currently the only tracking I have is Tweet analytics on Twitter. We own a domain that is equal to her performer name, so I suppose I could easily route all links through different redirects on our domain and keep a more keen eye on them.

Oh no, I was saying that she works the absolute minimum. -_-Sometimes only a day or two a week if we are caught up on bills. I wish she were more money motivated like I am. If I could step into her body, I would work 16 hour days, every day. I'd make a damn grand a day, work four months a year and take off eight!

I had set up a page on our site that had free videos for users to watch. Of course, these were chopped down versions, no more than a minute or two long. Then, around the videos I placed ads for affiliate programs I had joined. Unfortunately, this only generated an average of $3.16 per day so it wasn't worth my time to maintain.

We use a site called ManyVids to sell content and it earns us anywhere from $10 to $90 per day. She is just out of range for being in the top 100 ManyVids girls, too, so I expect this income to grow steadily as she climbs the charts.

We could refer girls but we'd only make $25 when they made their first $20. No recurring payments or anything. Furthermore, many many websites already do this, a blog about being a model to generate referrals would be very difficult to monetize without a pro SEO on our team. It's just a bit out of my scope.

Ultimately, the wife does a good job when she works. She makes great money for the few hours she puts in. As her following grows I know her income will as well. It excites me that, realistically, in 6 months or so I believe she can easily clear $500 or more in the same 4 hours she puts in each work day now. But I fear that making more in one sitting will cause her to work even less.

I need to master the art of engaging our audience on Twitter, expand our revenue streams, and cry in jealousy and insecurity as I make my way to the bank with fat pay checks every two weeks. The obstacle is learning the best ways to work the Tweeters.

We both had some pretty long posts, so I'm just going to reply to this part for now.

        1. Maybe it's not her personality, but she has a look or "assets" or something people go for. I didn't mean that she had some unique superstar charisma.. but I don't know.. not really my thing as a surfer..but if I were looking to watch a cam model maybe I would be looking for a petite blonde with tattoos (or whatever). She probably fits some kind of niche even if it's just being very attractive (that's a niche) or being a certain age or body type, etc. So, for example, if she's a busty goth model, maybe there's a certain audience for that and maybe some "leaders" in that niche. Same if she's curvy, a mom, whatever.

I understand wanting to keep your follower/following ratio, but a lot of accounts that build big followings do regularly follow a bunch of accounts and then un-follow ones that don't follow back and/or don't provide anything useful. I was getting at modelling the followers of the accounts you would like to emulate.

If you interact and keep it authentic and personal, that should go a long way. Social media is like a 2 way conversation, and people don't really want to just be sold to or talked AT, you know what I mean? If people follow you, they tend to want some interaction. It's like removing some of the barrier and making it more real-life like. And if each message is unique or personalized in some way, even better. There are a lot of different ways to say "Hey, thanks for following me" or "Hi. How is your day going?"

I think the best way to generate backlinks from Twitter is to post each of your web pages on your business as well as few secondary twitter accounts, regularly! You just need like 50-100 backlinks from social media sites like FB and Twitter. Once you have reached this mark, move on to other backlink generation techniques - blog commenting, forum threads, forum profile links, social bookmarking, RSS feed submission, article directory submission, and Web 2.0 directory submission ...

    Hope this helps

Putting out content that is 'authentic' is going to be huge, considering many of the accounts in your niche are fake/dummy accounts. To gain followers, try tweeting at big names in her field with an engaging tweet.

Yeah, I also wouldn't use a tool being promoted by the obvious owner and his friend/co-owner/other account who has 2 forum posts, both spam comments for his POS tool.

I have a Sex Twitter. My particular niche is femdom, but overall adult should work relatively the same. Here are a few strategies I use.

Post a Twitter specific photo or video telling my followers to RT (RT if you want to taste this, Show your princess you're a good boy, etc)

Respond to tweets you find sexy. Some guy posted his phone background and it was another well known femdom. I tweeted "sooo sexy. what a good boy you have" and after they both responded I got a total of roughly 40 followers.

If you want a good "follower ratio" then look at the profiles of people who follow other cam models & favorite their tweets for their attention instead.

Post your links once a day, but post 5-10 non affiliate related things daily, too. Random fantasies, other sexy thoughts, responses to other people, Re-Tweets...

You don't need to "stand out" personality wise, just show that she's a webcam model who is a real woman who will actually talk to and flirt with them.

Twitter is a kind of platform where promoting any business can prove to be beneficial for long time. As you all know twitter accepts only 140 characters and everyone needs to express their ideas within this limit only. Twitter is attaining huge popularity and this could help the business professionals to reach their targeted goal quickly.

Due to the presence of celebrities and entrepreneurs on this enchanting platform promoting any website can prove worth to it.
