FB - Lot's of clicks no sign ups???

I got 80 clicks in 8 hours, but not a single sign up. I also watched analytics for a while and didn't see a single person visit from Facebook.

Is this normal or should I look for a problem?

It was a Facebook website promotion. I had made the promotion active then watched analytics. The click counter was going up in FB but analytics was not showing any traffic.

I woke up today to a notification in analytics about the property receiving traffic from "redundant hostnames" which might show lower than true traffic. I'm a bit confused about this because one property in google webmaster with websitenam.com shows the correct landing page and I made another one with www.websitename.com and it shows the old website. Yet when I explore deeper into the crawling it shows the correct landing page.

So I guess I just answered my own question. Need to go research webmaster properties as I think i've set something up wrong.

I think 80 is a low number to determine clicks or conversions.

The reason can be a variety of factors. It can be because it is misleading or simply because the offer is not relevant to the audience. If they're clicking back, that means that something is wrong but you can do something because you got them to click to begin with.

    Thanks Dyk,

I didn't consider that maybe my idea of high clicks is different to others haha. Easy to get a bit over excited when you are new and getting any response at all.

Yes. It is still too early to determine the percentage especially since it seems that you are in part 1 of your click testing stage (not yet at 100 clicks).

Since they are clicking, you can test some of these factors for a week and see what changes:
      - for pictures, change design from colorful to minimalistic and vice versa. You can even try words-inside-a-white-box banners for minimalistic design.
      - the issue may also be on the landing page. Is it direct to the point (sign-up is in the middle with no distractions?)
      - is the offer relevant to the market - think as if you're part of the market and ask yourself 'Will I sign up for this offer because it is hard to refuse?' if not, then you need to change something. Change the freebie or the wording. Offer something more. Offer something that is hard to refuse.

This is with the assumption that this is a landing page sign-up kind of thing. If this is CPA, then you may want to post your offer in freebie or discount groups on Facebook.

Also, since we are talking about Facebook. It is easier to get them to like a page than to let them visit another page and sign-up.

Does your landing page content tie in with the content of your Facebook ad? It could be that people clicking through aren't seeing what they expected. Also, are the right type of people clicking through to your site? By that I mean, is your ad set up to target the right audience? I know that people are clicking through, but these might not be the right type of people - i.e. ones willing to convert.

The advice given by Dyk with regards to tweaking various factors in ad and landing page design is definitely worth trying. It's always good to run a couple of ads simultaneously for testing purposes.

      Hi GJHancock,

What you wrote is exactly what I think the problem was. The users where not finding what they expected. I mistakenly tried to oversell in the ad and then the landing page was a disappointment.

I tried different ads that were directly linked the landing page and I was able to get some good click throughs on some but the bounce issue still remained.

In the end I decided to re-design the landing page completely. My old one was my first attempt at a landing page, it was "retro".

I just launched it a few mins ago, so will try the ads again and see what happens.

Thanks for your help, I'll try running some different variations as you say!

        Hi Kieran,

It's all trial and error - keep tweaking until you find that winning formula. Hopefully you see better results from your refreshed campaign.

Do let us know how you get on.
