Problem converting views into Facebook followers

Hi there, I think this is my first post after several years of lurking. I guess I should introduce myself.

My name is Sam Cornwell and I used to head up the community over at Fiverr.com. Before landing that role I was working as a seller on there mostly putting out talking head videos etc and ranting videos. These days I'm a self employed photographic artist, trying to find my way online.

-- My website --

Last year I picked up the domain Phogotraphy.com to start blogging about photography related stories. I am an avid follower and contributor to PetaPixel.com and thought that instead of sending in tips and writing occasionally I'd build my own community. I posted infrequently for the first few months, with a few interesting widely shared posts, but it wasn't until last month I properly stepped up the effort. My wife and I, working as a team have been posting mostly original content daily or more and I'm happy to say we seem to be getting some traction.

-- Social Media Presence on Facebook --

Our Facebook page has been grown entirely organically. By that I mean we've not pushed our friends / bought followers / begged people to 'like' the page. I felt by doing this our audience would be more loyal. This might seem like a hard way to do things, but I felt it was right.

-- The problem --

Last months stats on Wordpress showed 45,000 views and 38,000 unique visitors. Pretty much on target and what we were expecting. HOWEVER, our Facebook page followers grew from 168 to 228. Pitiful. This, despite having a non-intrusive but quite large 'FOLLOW' button on the site.

-- Further thoughts --

I am pretty sure the content we've been pushing out is interesting. I can follow posts I share in groups on Facebook and see when they get some traction. Several articles in the last year made it into the wider press too. I'm concerned that maybe the mobile site isn't optimised well enough to convert readers into followers. I'm happy to work hard at this, I've not invested any extra money apart from the original outlay for the domain. I still don't know if Phogotraphy has potential yet but I am enjoying it.

So, are there any intelligent bloggers out there that could offer some experience or give me some tips? I don't know if I should be paying Facebook or changing the site layout - Please treat me gently, I'm practically a newbie.

Thanks in advance.

(Apologies for any typos, I have to rush out and can't check.)

You are putting out high-quality content, but it is a bit monotonous, just links back to your blog. I think if you worked with a professional, even for just a couple months to optimize your page, network a bit and help reinvigorate your posts, you could see the benefit from that.

How can you say that your content is interesting? Are they useful for your viewers?

If you are getting likes, shares and comments on your post (on a group or comes from people you are not related of) then do some leg work, add each of those person to your profile account. Once they accepted you request, invite them to your page. This will increase your "targeted" followers.
