Tagging... tagging... and more tagging...

Hi Guys,

I run a facebook and twitter page for my dog training niche site and have a few questions or in need of some advice when it comes to tagging my posts. I'm pretty familiar with how tagging works but..

How can I use it to my benefit?

So my facebook auto posts to my twitter and I post everything to facebook which shows up on twitter. I offer a few different types of posts... Product promotions, cool videos from popular online trainers, cool viral training videos and shock factory stuff (crazy dog videos).

How you recommend tagging them?
  • 1. Would you hashtag each vid with my biz name? (eg. #dogtrainingcleveland)
  • 2. How many hashtags would you use? (eg. I notice some pages use like 7 for each post and some hashtags I would find irrelevant - #dogtrainingclevelandd, #ohmydog, #OMGdoggies, #whatsupdawg, #trainingpuppies, etc.)
  • 3. Would you do a separate tag for each kind of post?
  • 4. One idea I have is to make a hashtag for a popular saying I say at the end of each video - it's become kind of my saying, similar to #traingthosedogs or #stickwithit
  • 5. Would you ever post hashtags to other popular channels or top things that are hashtagged? (eg. Like if I was to hashtag the #dogwhisperer or #cesarmillan
Any advice? Thanks guys, just looking for some good input.

Thanks!!!

I would recommend including a tag of your own saying that other people could like and feel inclined to reshare, as well as including popular tags within your niche - it will help reach an audience that you already know is incredibly interested in what your service is. Don't rely solely on that, but it will help bring you more traffic.

I would recommend getting set up on Instagram, as well. Sharing videos and tags will be sure to help you build a following quickly, as long as you are consistent with providing content for all of your platforms.

Tagging helps in the sense that some people search through topics through tags. It is highly useful in Instagram because you get to see pictures that are relevant to a particular tag.

As for Facebook and Twitter, it is quite new. I have not really studied the market to see how they are utilizing tags in those social networks.

    Thanks Jogunn,

As far as instagram goes... my videos are minimum 3 minutes to 20 minutes long... I dont know enough about instagram but don't they only allow like 10 second videos max? I'd love to use instagram to promote just didn't think it applies to my niche because its majority pictures.. If i took pictures of me holding my guitar in my studio, i feel it would get boring.

    What do you think?

    Thanks!
