How To Dominate Snapchat Marketing

Grab your favourite drink, pen and paper and get ready to take some notes

I feel come this time next year Snapchat will have its own section here on WF..

Snapchat has come a very long way from when it launched back in 2011, where it went by the name of Picaboo (great example of it doesn’t have to be perfect for you to get started.)

With over 4 billion video views a day which is just one of the many great statistics you can see why Snapchat is such a great platform to be involved with right now.

No matter what industry or niche you are in over the next couple of months you are going to be seeing your audience and your competition transition over into using Snapchat and you have the chance now to take advantage of this situation.

Music stars such as DJ Khaled, Justin Bieber and Rihanna to name a few have already got fans going crazy and standing by for their snaps so the question is “How can you utilize Snapchat to its full potential?”

This is still the beginning and Snapchat is still classed as been “young” I’ve been on Snapchat for over a year, but have been using it more regularly recently and I am still learning new things each and everyday and at the same time figuring out new inventive ways to get my content out there.

Once you get going with it (give it 2 weeks), if you currently are not using the app, it will then becomes second nature and now I find myself wanting to literally Snapchat everything but end up holding myself back as I would end up getting nothing else done throughout the day!

Many people right about now are asking the same questions which is understandable…

“How do I know what my audience wants me to post?”
“How do I get more followers?”
“Is there a blueprint into been successful with Snapchat?”
“Where can I spend money to learn this?”

This was the same when Instagram came along, Facebook, Twitter you name it, when something new arrises users are more worried about getting lost, confused and “not understanding it” instead of going out there any seeing how it works.

Don’t be afraid to make mistakes — believe me it won’t be the end of the world if your Snap doesn’t get anyone responding to you — regroup and keep it moving…

What you are currently doing/done on other social media platforms can still be applied via Snapchat as well.

Think of using filters on Instagram, or short messages like Twitter you can use your previous experience to your advantage.

Realistically anyone can get involved and get started today, whether you are a chef; a personal trainer, yoga instructor etc you can use Snapchat and start to dominate your niche, with great value & content which your niche is looking for.

Get following other users

Snapchat isn’t as easy when it comes to finding relevant people within your niche to follow, it is not like Twitter or Instagram where you can throw in some keywords or hashtags and it brings back relevant people related to what you are searching for.

Instead you have to know who you are wanting to follow either via there username, or SnapCode. Whether this will change in the future who knows, but you can still grow a huge following if done correctly.

You have to do some searching around, but it is more straight forward than you think — just go to where people in your niche hang out. For example on forums you can post a thread of “relevant people to follow” try find at least 1 or 2 and add “I am on Snapchat” lets get a list of others within our “circle” a strategy like this can be done within minutes and as you find new new people to follow others are also coming across you as well! — Simple & effective and still works today.

Another straightforward method which has allowed me to come across some great Snapchatters is via twitter just searches, hashtags etc i.e #Snapchat #marketing what every is relevant to you go out there and start searching.

Once you start to grow your followers you will see them start to promote relevant people and it will continue to grow and here is the start of building you’re audience.
Be different and stand out

This is nothing new, the only great thing here right about now is that you have a great advantage as there is so much space to go in and dominate your market.

But what is your USP?

You should already know this in terms to what you are doing on other social media platforms, but how can you bring it to Snapchat and get people wanting to see your story on there timeline?

Again now is the perfect time due to the fact a average user on Snapchat follows around 30 users so you have a great change of getting in front of your target audience each and everyday as long as you have something of interest to provide to them.

So for example if you are a Yoga instructor, you could be going out to weird locations and performing Yoga moves. If you are a chef you could be creating daily quick recipes — that you only show on Snapchat. The possibilities are endless which is the great advantage that anyone using Snapchat currently has.

Because Snapchat is unique it makes it more interesting and at them same time easy to hit and target — do this right and you will start to grow a huge audience.

Been consistent matters

As is life, consistency pays of, and on Snapchat it pays of big! There are no limits to how many snaps you can post per day! My advice make sure you are posting something every single day!

It sound hard now and at first it will be, but as I mentioned before once you get started — you will think what can I post, the more you get into it and using it, the more comfortable you will become in front of the camera and ideas will flow in terms of what you can be sending out each and everyday.

If you look on your Snapchat timeline there will sure be people you look out for each and everyday — the equation is simple:

Post good content — post it regularly

Mixing it up!

There are so many different options that I could write for hours and this post would be even longer than it is! But I am going to keep it fairly simple and tell you what I am currently doing:

With me I do the following:

Videos — what I am working on, tips & tricks, advise you name it
Images — things relevant to business, currently working on, quotes
Messages — black screen, lay my thoughts out over a few Snaps (very effective)
Q&A — Great for interaction, get people ask me questions then answer them via my snaps
Random day to day shiz — a mixture of my life, meals, Arsenal, with friends — #RealLife
CTA away from Snapchat — to blog posts mainly, always hitting up my snapchat with content that will benefit them:

95% straight up Snapchat 5% CTA

Every moment can be a Snapchat moment — don’t over complicate it — the more natural and real your Snapchat is the better engagement you will get and the more you and your brand will grow on Snapchat and in general.

Reply to everyone who follows you

This sounds so simple but at the same time is pure gold! I remember when Twitter 1st came about and when somebody followed you you would message them back or DM them saying thanks — then bots came along and it’s now not even effective anymore. With Snapchat guess what ENGAGEMENT & INTERACT (had to be a capslock moment)

You can actually send a video back or a message stating thanks for the follow hope you like my Snaps etc — something along them lines.

I prefer sending a video back, its short and at the same time it is more personal, and you are beginning that 1st interaction with your new follower and starting a conversation. Mentioning the persons name is great i.e “Thank you James for following me” they know it is you having a direct conversation with just them.

Building that trust and rapport with your followers is what currently makes Snapchat game changing as you have taken time out to speak with them — once you start to grow it will take more time, but trust me it will be worth it, take time out of your day and bundle them in together is the best way to go about it — Trust me it will be worth it!

How do I grow?

It all comes down to leveraging other avenues i.e. Social media platforms that you are on — if you are following me around the net you can now see that with all of my profile pictures I am using my Snapchat bar code, so via places like Twitter, Facebook , Quora — forums always get in front of where your audience is and the rest is made alot easier.

How do I measure my success on Snapchat?

People viewing my Snaps & engagement it is fairly simple — right now I am not concerned in terms of what day is best, or what time is appropriate to post different content, I just know that if I am showing up on my followers timeline and they know I am giving straight up dope content they are always going to be opening my snaps.

By interacting again you can see what your success looks like i.e. asking in your Snaps to your followers — “Have you read my last article? — I want to know your feedback…
If people respond to you — means they are viewing your snaps and interacting with you on your subjects.

It is much easier than you think in all fairness.

I hope you have learnt a lot from this blog post — I amy come back and edit this over time with new findings etc but you now know you do not need a manual when it comes to snapchat!

I know that all my Snaps are not perfect — but I just want to get information and content out to everyone who is following me, interact and engage they are my main goals.
What are you main goals for when it comes to Snapchat?

What helped you determine Snapchat was the right place to be for the audience you're aiming to capture? (Haha, get it...capture...)
But seriously, what made you think, "this is the right place I need to be right now" apart from research into the niche on the platform and the fact it has a young audience/is seen as one of the most recent growing networks? Genuinely curious.

Very good question! In terms of why I am using it is - I am not selling anything on Snapchat so I am just building value and giving a way really good content! With entrepreneurs becoming younger & younger I think it is the perfect platform.

With that been said Snapchat will not always be for the "young" generation I remember when there was a time where I would never of thought I would see my Mum or Dad on Facebook (times sure have changed...)

Nice going, a genuine approach is always refreshing. Definitely, as with most platforms I can see it eventually drifting towards an older gen too. I wonder if marketers would have flooded it's space by then?
