The 8 Laws for Better Engagement on Facebook (After Studied 1 Billion FB Posts)

If you are interested in getting way more engagement from Facebook's newsfeed, then you need to find out what Buzzsumo learned about FB engagement.

In January, the Buzzsumo team completed an in-depth analysis of over 1 billion posts from no less than 30 million brand pages on Facebook.

These are what they found:

#1 Questions and images generate the most engagement on Facebook.

#2 Text posts of less than 50 characters are what get the most interaction. It is safe to assume that Facebook is a place for searching and engaging, not for reading.

#3 Videos that are directly uploaded on FB get over six times engagement compared to linked videos on YouTube.

#4 Interestingly, posts with hashtags get less interaction compared to posts without hashtags.

#5 Regarding posting time, the study showed that it is best to post between 10 PM and Midnight of your audience's local time. It's the time when posts get the most engagement, seemingly because that's also the time when there are less posts competing for attention.

#6 On average, posts made on Sunday generate more engagement on Facebook. Again, presumably, because there are less other posts that compete for newsfeed attention.

#7 Also getting more engagement are posts that link to articles of over 1,000 words.

#8 Finally, sharing Instagram images on Facebook appears to generate a 23% increase in newsfeed engagement.

What's your finding?

Share them below.

cheers!

Yes, videos are getting more and more powerful on Facebook. It's not just getting engagement, if you have something great to offer, make a short video and post it. Facebook videos done right = huge potential for brands and marketers.

      Here is a great example:

Diamond Candles, which gives lucky customers rings with their candle purchases, On their page, they told fans to “like if you want one” and received 1,836 likes and nearly 25,000 views.

#5 (and #6, which is closely related) is something that every person who is using Facebook to organically reach their prospects should know.

Thanks for the great share, Verena!

      Agree, lol.

A large portion of successful social media relies on carrying on a consistent conversation with our audience.

        Thanks for the share !

I agree with what you posted. I experiment with 2 posts, the first one with youtube video and the second one with just a image & words. Both are talking about the same content.

I thought the youtube video will get the most responses since it is a video but in the end the second post with image/words gotten way more engagements

Great post Verena, very thought provoking and alot of useful information in there.

Something that i've found engages well is using quotes and then captioning it or asking a question in relation to it as it gets people thinking how that quote can either benefit or relate to them.

Don't forget to be posting regularly with non promotional content. I see so many page owners get an audience and then just burn it all with slamming the feed with promotional posts.

Great info for Facebook. What gets me the most engagement are pictures with simple text. Quality content gets shared the most since they find some worth in it, and they feel good to engage in discussion and share that same post.
