Angry Facebook Page Commenter

If you have managed a page you have surely come across an angry commenter that is offended by your post. In my opinion an angry comment is still a positive as the commenters friends/fans will see the comment so its free exposure. Which leads me to my question!

As a page admin do you provoke (politely) the angry person in order to get more responses or do you attempt to diffuse the situation in order to calm the waters and keep everyone happy?

You real can't avoid to read some very rude comments. But that's just how social media is working. Rude comments only make use more motivate to do our best in everything.

I've had people that were offended on my page or had an issue and typically I private message them to diffuse the situation. I also reply to them on the thread stating, "I've sent you a private message."

It's kind of like the teacher pulling the student out of class and speaking to him/her outside the hall. It's probably best not to feed the fire by provoking them on the thread. Your followers are watching how you handle business.

I prefer to calm the commenter down by politely explaining my opinion and why I think things are like this. If the discussion continues, I reply until there's no reason to do so. Negative comments are indeed good for exposure and usually people who like your page jump in the discussion.

I have one page that deliberately sets out to provoke controversy and ............. people get really worked up and comment and reply to the comments by the bucketload.

It certainly makes for a lot of action and it rarely leads to any personal attacks so I just let them run.

Interesting, however would thinks this is way too time consuming on very large pages.

This is probably more along the lines that I am looking for, just wondering if it works against your with page liking and disliking, which is sort of what I am concerned about.
