Facebook wants you to abandon your websites... will you?

Very interesting indeed....

Facebook gives businesses another reason to abandon websites | South China Morning Post

To wit:

"...Facebook's fast-loading, immersive Canvas tool, which combines video, text, and photo slideshows in an interactive, scrolling format, isn't just for advertisers anymore.

The company is letting any business with a Page create Canvases for free, Facebook's VP of ads and business platform, Andrew "Boz" Bosworth, says.

Since Facebook launched the ads globally in February, people spend an average of 31 seconds in each one, which has driven over 100 years of time spent in Canvases total.

"It's a really cool experience," Bosworth says. "It's super quick -- it feels a little like the future." ..."

The challenge is, however....

FB is still another person's beach, so to say...

... and you should NEVER build all of your sandcastles somewhere that you do not own.

After all, FB can remove your account in the future if they ever desire....

So I'd recommend using this as a tool, and not the be-all and end-all.

What about you?

Now it is possible to do affiliate marketing, to build your own brand and so on without your website. Nothing bad with this, i think.
You can upload your videos to your personal website and struggle with promoting them. From the other hand, you can upload them to YouTube, where it is easier to promote them.
You can create your fan page using your own website, or you can use Facebook FanPage, where it is easier to attract visitors.

Btw, do you realy believe that your website is your property? All the domain names is the property of the US government .

    Hey Barb,

    Did I miss something?

I didn't see a thing about how to build a sales funnel using their Canvas tool...

Definitely agree. with the multiple news feed algorithm updates, as well as all the new features, Facebook tends to keep all the traffic on their own platform, massively reducing organic (or even paid) reach for outside links.

So yeah, it's definitely a sign never put ALL your eggs in a single basket...

  • Facebook is a law unto itself for business, you spend a bit of money and I will admit once you get refining your ads, it just bloody works and the phone rings or the products sell, facebook great if you spend cash but given the up and down nature of SEO and the internet itself not including Big G who always changes the landscape on us, I would never just limit myself to facebook.

Ill admit it is great for business but only those without the digital marketing mindset would ever drop a .com for a facebook page forever as part of a long term strategic plan it doesnt hold its water as a stand alone tool

    The answer is definitely no!
Webpages are extremely important for a business or company, you cant just abandoned them, if Facebook is starting to reduce the reach on link related posts, then we need to think on new and innovative strategies to bypass that restriction and get traffic from there to our website.
