facebook fan page audience reach

Hey guys,

lately, I was observing my fan page statistics, and it's not ideal at all.

The fact that organic reach on fb is declining (and will decline) is besides the point.. so I was trying to optimize at least the type of content that is more successful. I am sure fb has very specific algorithms for that.

I've got a DJ fan page with 111 likes.

On August 5th at 11:31 pm I've published a post with a picture, announcing a new mixtape.
252 people reached - who sees the post besides people who liked my page anyway ?

The next day, at 9:34 pm I published a post with a soundcloud link to the mixtape.
56 people reached. From that, 5 people clicked the link.

- very hard to get content out there to the people in this way.

I can keep going, but I'll use just these two posts as an example.

Did somebody manage to optimize their 'publishing habits' on their fan pages, so that more people actually see the content we are providing ?

Your numbers that you posted are actually very good. I'm not sure what the issue is.

In the first case, you experienced a roughly 200% reach. In the second case, about 50%. Both numbers are very good.

How does your engagement look overall? Also, have you reviewed your Insights to see when your fans are online?

that's true, you're right... so I need to work on engagement from the fans, rather than reach. I barely get any clicks, not even likes or comments.

What does reach actually mean ? That they simply see the post in their feed ?

How can reach be more than 100% ? Who is the post shown to, apart from people that like my page ?

This could be because of the content type. You mentioned putting out videos, right? Videos will autoplay on Facebook feeds - they don't even need to click the play button, let alone the 'like button'.

Try mixing up your content to include things that push for engagement. Here is just one blog post of the many that can help you with engagement:

Some tips from me personally: Ask questions to your audience, create polls/quizzes, giveaways, pictures where people use the new range of 'like emotes' to vote. Etc

Reach can be more than 100% due to sharing/liking/commenting because other people see that.

Below is an article I wrote about the relationship between Reach and Engagement.

Reach matters a great deal in our line of business. When you go for something unique your reach may jump to 200%. Some other times it is jsut 5%, so you never know. That's why people like fb - you can create a viral content and get likes, as a bonus.

ok, now I understand a bit better. Thanks.

@Princetotem - no videos yet.. Only tried to do a live stream once, which got blocked immediately because of the music / copyright. That's also some bs, as I know many people who do live-mixing videos with 'commercial' songs and don't have a problem.

    Hi there,

Thought i would chime in here - Some really good points being made!

I would like to echo what you guys are saying in regards to varying the content - what is going to stand out in someone's news feed! What is going to make them look at your post? Make it interesting:

    - Image
    - Video
    - A share
    - A call to action post
    - A quote

These are just a few things - but they would really help in creating that variety. Just touching on sharing - that is a great way of creating interest. Share a useful post from one of the many influential people that work in your niche industry. Maybe a post, blog, article that is already very popular with the very people you would love to attract. Like and comment on specific comments and share the post on your page. Those people who you are liking will get a notification from you that you have liked or replied to their comment (on someone else page remember) - they will be more inclined to visit you as a result of this! Do not spam or anything like that! Hold yourself with integrity and be consistent with it!

    Hope this help!

    JB

Truthfully, you have to understand what your audience likes and match the content that will engage them the best. I mostly have a female audience so certain content works better engagement wise.

Outstanding advice. It's common sense but most people overlook it.

That is pretty good reach for a page with not much likes!

If people share your post your reach will go way up.

If people like your post some of their friends will see it so your reach will go up also. People who don't like your page will see your post this way.
