Pinterest going to challenge FB .... again?

Did you hear?

How buying Instapaper could help Pinterest become a media portal like Facebook

They just bought the read-it-later services called Instapaper.... its a thingee that allows folk to save pages from the web to read later.

So what would they buy it?

To wit:

"...Because Instapaper stores the actual content, removing the need for people to leave its app to view it. And because eight-year-old Instapaper brings with it a bunch of insight into the articles that people save and read, which translates into data six-year-old Pinterest can use to get a better idea of what content it should recommend to its audience. That data could be combined with the data Pinterest already has on what content people like to post to and view on its service. And it could give Pinterest a way to try to rival Facebook as a popular place people go to find things to check out, be it wardrobe ideas, tattoo designs, how-to videos or news articles."

In other words, Pinterest will get better metrics on what their users like consuming... and then present that content (plus probably ads that support it as wel).

So the question for you is...

Can you make money with it?

Both are contributing in their own way to it's social community. One organization challenging other leads to healthy competition which always results in the creation of exciting stuff. In this case , I think FB should'nt be worried about Pinterest's plan to buy instapaper becasue Facebook has multiple investments in various sectors and is diversifying it's options consistently.

I don't think Pinterest will ever challenge Facebook.

Pinterest is however a good platform for social media marketing. They are really improving their advertising platform.

It's nice to know the news thanks for sharing.
