Which is better for a FB Contest, Page or Group?

I came across some info on how to use a Giveaway Contest on a FaceBook Page, to get lots of members.

I plan to use a contest on FaceBook to build my IM list.

But I also read that members of a Group get shown EVERY post, but members of a Page don't. So is a Group better for my Contest, and for promoting an IM list and relevant products etc.?

Are there any disadvantages of using a Group for these purposes, i.e. ways a Page would be better ?

Which is easier to get new members for, a Page or a Group? Which is easier to get people to Like and Share? Anything else relevant ???

thanks in advance for any info on this !

    Nutshell:
    • Groups typically offer better conversions.
    • Pages are easier to grow and syndicate media.
    Your best route:
    • Contest on your page.
    • Encourage syndication (with the contest).
    • Use page to grow your group.
And when running page contests, make sure that you operate within FB TOS: read this (browse down to contests).

The trick to a contest? Infuse it with virality!

    Thanks.

I have done both . . . created a Page, and also a Group, after getting advice from a FaceBook expert.

That way I have created the contest on the Page, and also made it a Pinned-Share on the Group, so all members see it.

You did the right thing. You need a page to create the contest, but you can share it in one or more groups which offer better reach (at least for now).

Thanks ! Yes, it seems to make sense to have both.

One challenge with the Group is that the only other Groups I can find on internet-marketing only have adverts every few seconds, no comments, no discussion at all, so I'll have to find a way to make my Group a real one for discussion, removing any members who post adverts only.

You can interact efficiently with a wider community by building up a FB page. But apart from that you need to spread the word about your page as well. The best way to do it is to start up a side blog where you give a brief description about the contest you intend to run on your page. Other than that you can also advertise on FB to reach a specific demographic you want to target.
