How to grow your Twitter following authentically

Everywhere you look people are offering to 'sell' you Twitter followers which, with the amount of time it takes to grow an audience, can sometimes seem quite tempting! I've previously spent all my time on Facebook and Instagram but in the past few months decided to commit to Twitter (comtwitter? ) and have put a few things into place which are slowly but surely helping me grow my reach.

I'm also looking for some new suggestions though, it's a slow process and you've got to be doing all you can, don't you think?

I've done some research elsewhere and have a few methods which I'm working with at the moment but I wondered if anyone has ant success stories of things that they've done which has dramatically increased their reach?

Here are a few things that I've implemented recently which seem to be working, albeit slowly.

1) Follow contacts from other social channels.
It's likely that your Facebook friends, Instagram followers and LinkedIn connections are on Twitter too and probably in the same predicament! I've synced all my contacts which instantly gave me new people to follow who them followed back. It's a small step but it did make a difference!

2) Acknowledge people who link up to you.
Whether it's a new follow, a hashtag or someone mentions you in a comment, always respond. This shows not only them, but their followers too, that you're relational and in it for the long haul.

Twitter isn't' that dissimilar to making friends in real life and you won't get very far if people are taking the time to contact you but you're not making any effort to respond, it just makes you look rude in fact! Not only that, but people's followers will also see you involved in conversations and get involved too. This is where the next point comes into play...

3) Post interesting content!
You obviously need to keep your business account professional but you can still take the opportunity to post inspiring quotes and stories, just consider your target audience is all. If you're in business aim things at entrepreneurs or aim to motivate your clients in some way; it all goes to building rapport and even if someone stumbles across your account but they're not interested in your product - if your content is interesting they'll follow you, and you never know who's following them!

4) PERSEVERE!
Getting Twitter followers for a business account is not an easy task, but if you're committed to the process you'll definitely get there. You need to spend time in Twitter every day to show people that you're serious about your presence on the platform, and that it's worth their while following you.

While it has definitely been tempting to pay for followers, I know it will only end up doing more harm than good as you'll end up spamming genuine followers plus you run the risk of having your account cancelled. If you're in it for the long haul there aren't any shortcuts but these few tips might help a little bit.

Has anyone got any other strategies for genuinely growing their following?
