I'm still in the first few months of running a business and I'm finding that tying all the elements together which I need to do to be successful is taking a lot of time - marketing, accounts, sales and service delivery are all key elements and they're turning into full time jobs in themselves!

I just wondered if I had to pick one, if people can advise me which takes more of a priority - content creation or SEO?

I know that both are valuable and they both overlap somewhat, but it takes time and money for both to run smoothly and I just wondered how people prioritize? Would be really grateful for any feedback and advice on this one; because the results are so slow-going I feel like I'm wasting my time on both and that there re so many more important things I could be doing.

How do you manage it?

Content Writing is good, but it has lots of Challenges. Everybody have their own taste, Also if you get lot of projects you have to hire more content writers which is again a hard task.

I would recommend to go for SEO Business and hire some Content Writers. You can easily find Content Writers from India, Philippines etc at very cheap rate and quality is also not bad.

    Good Luck for your Business!

Thanks so much for your input!
Have you ever used content writers from India or the Phillipines? If so, how did you get in touch with them? I'd be interested to know about the quality of content that is provided from overseas.

Unfortunately at this stage I'm not in the position to hire anyone which is why I'm doing it all myself. My question was regarding the best use of my time, but I can see that both are just as important as each other!

      Great feedback, thank you!

Content and SEO go hand in hand because you need content in order to do SEO. On-site Seo to be specific.

I would focus on writing/creating content because the more content you have the more "hooks in the sea you have". In other words, you have more exposure and if you do a really good job, people will do the SEO for you by linking out and sharing it via many streams of social media.

    Hope that helps

I agree, content and SEO are some times faces of the same coin, however I think that the user that started this post is talking about wether to specialize as a marketer on content marketing or on SEO.

Personally, I prefer content marketing, because I like the creative thinking, SEO has its creative parts as well but its more limited, and it needs a lot of work before you can get results.

Yes you make a good point. That's the way I look at it as well the more content I have out the better. Obviously it should be good content, but the more the better. It can also give you more ammunition for social media for years to come. More content, more stuff to post.

Content creation and SEO go and in hand. Writing useful content allows you to build trust and relationships. In order to maximize your chances of generating sales you should use google ad-word key word tool which gives you keywords along with search volume and competition level for the words. It can work to your advantage . Thirdly your not gonna jump online and make sales from jump. This is not to say you cannot do it in a short period of time, it can be done providing that you are learning the correct techniques .

What strategy or strategies are you currently using to draw traffic ?

As far as I know fresh content creation is a part of SEO. SEO is a complicated thing and you need to do content creation in terms of improving your SEO as well.

Without great content, there is no guarande for the future. A good content can hold your website on higher position with out very much effort on SEO. It is sure a long and hard way but it creates a solid ranking. Without content even in social media it is hard to find something useful to post about the website you promote.

    Hi,

Both are good - SEO takes up to 6 months to work and content works immediately.

I would suggest you consider Google Adwords if you are looking to get results quickly as opposed to SEO, I know that's probably not something some people want to hear but you can sign up for a campaign and get some really good results without the wait.

Good luck whatever it is you decide to go with.

As far as content is concerned, if it is written well out of the gate and good SEO principles are applied as you go, the SERPS will start to improve along with it.

I would try to build some meaningful and good social signals back to your main piece of content each time. This will start to provide a good mix of backlinks back to the content.

Also start doing some forum marketing in a relevant niche mentioning the article located on your website. Don't over do it, but you will start to see some traction if you are working with an area that you can rank for well.

I have to say that they go hand in hand with each other and you need to split your time equally to be effective. If you're spending one hour on your content marketing then make it 30 minutes and 30 minutes on your SEO strategy.

If you alternate each week or each day - it's so important that you focus on both.

They are both part of your online presence and you just can't have one without the other. Well you can, but it's counter-productive.

If you focus on content marketing, nobody new is going to find your page to view it. Time wasted.
If you focus on SEO, when people get to your page they'll be met with rubbish content and won't come back.

I repeat because I think that it's a point that needs repeating - you can't focus on one without the other!!

If you're struggling, let another area go - this isn't it - both of these need and deserve your focus.

Its not a case of one or the other. Nor are the they both sides of the same coin. SEO only relates to your website - and is only a small part of the whole pie. Its super important that you adhere to best SEO practices but its is not something that should consume all of your time. Make sure your site is properly optimized - Meta Tags, optimized on-site content using the correct H1's, H2's, H3's, proper site structure and Internal linking to name a few best practices. Links are another matter! But having good content will help attract links.

Content drives your business it establishes authority and transcends SEO - Remember there are many different forms of content and not all content will be used on your website. You should be creating content for different channels - Youtube, Podcasts, Webinars are all forms of content that can be used to drive traffic, increase brand awareness and ultimately drive sales.

    Hope this helps

    Why not both?

SEO takes time, from a few weeks to a few months.

So in the mean time, while your website is getting ranked, create Content and distribute it on Social Media.

Remember, for SEO you need content and KW to get ranked.

There’s no question about it — SEO and content marketing are both valuable. If your business depends on web traffic for any part of its continuation, technical SEO and content marketing are both critical.

Content alone cannot provide you better results, hence you need to make use of both- content as well as SEO for getting best results. When the content is ready then only you can go for search engine optimization.

I would focus on writing the best quality content possible.

However, with that said, pick the one thing you do best and focus on that.

    Then outsource the other one.

    Hope this Helps.
