What social media networks do you actually ENJOY working with?

by DGSEO 40 replies
I've seen lots of conversation around here about what social media networks people find useful for marketing, but which social media networks do you actually enjoy working with? Do you use these networks for personal use as well?

Personally I'm a huge fan of Twitter because it has a great community of writers and I enjoy using Facebook to keep in touch with relatives across the ocean, but I haven't really gotten into any other social media networks yet.

What I enjoy working with is a totally different story to what I 'need' to use fo for my clients.

Personally, I absolutely rate Instagram above all else for its ease of use and simplicity and the fact that the visual element allows me to scroll through without having to read a bucket load of useless content.

I use social media as an outlet and way to defrag for a few minutes in between projects and this element is really something I love about Instagram.

I don't enjoy using Twitter or Snapchat and I am not a massive fan of You Tube - I want my content tailored and I want to see a few minutes of the favourite people I am following in one easy, quick stream.

I love looking at Instagram but I personally don't use it that much because I do all my work from home and I rarely have things to take pictures of. Well, other than my cat, who is surprisingly good at avoiding having her picture taken.

  • I'm also a big fan of Twitter for creating personal connections with other professionals, but I haven't yet found it to be particularly useful for finding clients. I suspect it's more useful for actual physical product sales.

I honestly haven't found many clients through Twitter either but I have connected with many professionals in the industry and I've learned a lot from all of them.

I rate Facebook and Pinterest as one of my personal favorites for marketing purposes. Especially, Facebook has huge community following and gives you an opportunity to reach across several demographics of your choice.

    How to utilize it?

Well it depends on you and your business. I have been involved in a merchandise business for some time and I always achieve effective conversions when I use short video clips and images for advertisements. As a matter of fact I started up with the help of my friends on Facebook who were a major source to spread the word about my business to other people belonging to the same age group. You can achieve maximum turnover if you are successful in networking and communicating with other people on this social media platform.

    Cheers

I am a big fan of Pinterest and Facebook for my marketing purposes, too. I agree with you that it depends on social network users and their business to utilize it.

Facebook and Twitter are definitely my favorites networks, they were the first networks which I used for my personal life, and since then they have really conquered my heart, if you know what I mean.

Ive been an early user of both networks, and its really been quite a ride to see them grow and change since they were created.

For working, those two are also my favorite networks, I believe they are the easiest places where you can grow an account from scratch, and their users there are very receptive to new content and brands, specially if you offer innovative ideas.

Youtube is my third favorite network, I also started using it at early stages, although I didnt create any content or anything there, I only watched what other users uploaded, I remember when I used to spent hours and hours watching clips from favorite shows there. I must say though that Youtube can be a hard place for working, you need to have great skills and very innovative ideas for running a successful account, and also a lot of patience, editing a 2 minutes video can take up to four hours, a lot of time!

Im also starting to use Pinterest, its also a great network, with an awesome community, I think its like a gold mine, with a lot of amazing ideas and experiences waiting to be discovered, I can spend hours scrolling through pins!, and for work, its the ideal network for redirecting traffic and improving your SEO!.

And at last, Instagram and Snapchat are also quite an important part of my life right now, I use them everyday for posting my day to day stuff, the ephimerality of both networks is a very strong ally for posting those things you wouldnt like to see in Facebook "look to the past" feature, am I right?

My less favorite network? Google +, although I understand it has some interesting features, I really dont get it, I tried to use it but its like it just doesnt work for me, you can really tell that it was something designed by Google just with the objective of having their own network, but they really didnt put much effort on it, it doesnt have any distinctive feature, and I believe its not very responsive.

The social media universe is so profound and full of surprises, after writing this comment, I cant avoid to ask my self what the next surprise will be? will it be a new network that will break the internet? or a new feature in one of the existing networks that will surprise us all? lets wait and see, im really anxious to find out.

I was also an early user of Facebook, but to be honest I dislike a lot of the changes they've made. Other than the first couple of changes to streamline the system and create live chat, I think most of the changes have made it actually more difficult to use on a personal level, and now they've also made it all but impossible for brands to really catch people's attention without paying for ads.

I like Twitter because it's fun and super easy to use, but I don't know if it's the best marketing tool.

I read somewhere that only about 2-5% of your followers read your tweets.

Ouch! I think the percentage is a little higher than that, but to be honest it doesn't feel too wrong to me. I do love Twitter, but my engagement stats definitely aren't what I'd like them to be, and I understand this is pretty common.

Yeah I wish there was hard numbers.

It's difficult to measure how many people see your tweet versus how many read your tweet.

Interesting list. I've actually never even heard of Dashburst--I guess there really are new social networks almost every day. You're also the first person that's actually mentioned really spending time on LinkedIn. To be honest LinkedIn is just a glorified resume for me at this point. I haven't really found it good for forming lasting connections at all.

  • I personally like Facebook. It has a wide option for marketing, whether it is for ads, a page, timeline news feeds, live videos, and more! It also has a wide range of users not limited to a specific niche. So if you have a very interesting and catchy post or video to share linking back to your web page or site it is a great way to gain popularity and also a great opportunity for engagement and possible sales.

I use FaceBook (rarely), Twitter (daily), Google+ (a few times a month), Tumblr (a couple times a week), Pintarest (not that often, but more often then FaceBook) and my fave one is Reddit, which I use daily, nearly hourly. There is just an endless supply of topics that I find to comment on and people to talk to, it's great.

I have an Instagram, but never used it. I also have LiveJournal and LinkedIn and AboutMe and MySpace, which I was active on in their hey days, but now I just log in to accept new friend requests every 3 to 6 months and don't do much else with them.

Very niche to my topic is Steam discussion boards, and itch.io forums, as well. I'm a gamer on YouTube and these two forums are for YouTube gamers.

Also SBI (Solo Build it aka Site Build It by Ken Evoy) forums. But it's a private forum, paid access ($30 a month). I like it because there are 100% ZERO trolls or spammers on the forum (and link dumping is not allowed), and you can just talk about web building and SEO and content creating without being bombarded with links to all kinds of promotions. The forum is almost identical to the Warriors Forum, topic-wise, but no one is posting "buy me" or "download me" or "visit my site" links all over the place. It's just people who actually build successful money making websites, sharing their successes and failures in webbuilding with each other. I love the calm, laid back, stress free (troll free and spam free) environment. Definitely worth paying for having a "safe zone" forum I can retreat to when the heckticness of the Warriors Forum gets to be to much for me.

And of course, the Warriors Forum. Forums definitely counts as social network hubs and this one is by far one of my faves. Even though I only post 1 or 2 posts a month, I'm usually here every day reading what the rest of you guys are saying. It's a very informative place. I've learned way more here then I do on typical "web sites" or blogs designed to help in SEO advice.

    The funny thing is...

    you asked:

Do you use these networks for personal use as well?

    Uhm...

I ONLY use these places for personal use.

You do not find me using any of these places for marketing.

Yes, on each site, if you look at my profile, you'll see a link to my site in my profile, but, that's it. You don't see me posting links in my posts.

Mostly I just like chatting with other authors, other gamers, other CosPlayers, and other people who build website and write keyword targeted content articles. Social networks are my "chill time", stuff I do "after hours" in between working.

People are always asking me how I get so many followers on all my social networks (10s of thousands on each one) and, I just tell them, the secret to gaining followers to to not be trying to get followers at all. Just be yourself, chat with people, treat them like friends. Don't be blasting them with "buy me" "click this" links. Just be their best buddy. That's what they really want. Someone they can talk to without fear of a link being tossed in their face. Best way to gain followers fast is to be yourself and not try to gain followers at all.

Instagram is quickly outpacing the other social media platforms. Facebook has become too expensive & twitter is limited with character count. Instagram has effectively eliminated the need for pinterest, snapchat & periscope. Also Instagram is least influenced by algorithms but could change soon as facebook starts to convert it into advertising platform just like FB.
