Micro content, are we using it?

We live in times of ephimerality, we are constantly being boomed with advertising and messages, and our attention to those things has decrease dramatically, our brain decides wether we will pay attention to an ad in just a matter of seconds, getting the audience attention is really a huge challenge.

The key is to stop the people thumbs, thats right, the thumb is the key , the finger that we use to scroll down in our smartphones, and that thumb only stops when something has caught our attention, as I mentioned before, the decision is made in just a few seconds.

So, the key in all this mess is to find a way to caught the people attention in those seconds, and secure their thumbs will stop, but that is not an easy thing, and its getting harder and harder.

A good content strategy is the best way to secure this, but the problem is, people is getting tired of regular content, the things that worked five years ago, dont work any more. I keep seing a lot of marketer using long and high quality content, and im pretty sure that is not working, not because the content is bad, but because people has grown tired of that. In this era, spending more than five seconds to read a post, or more than two minutes to watch a video, is considered a waste of time.

So, whats the solution? I think its micro content, small pieces of content that can attract the attention and stop the thumb in just a second, ive been trying to use micro content in the accounts I ran, and it has given me some good results so far.

How can we create good pieces of micro content? These are some tips that can be useful:

It must be useful: Whatever you do, it has to bring some value to your audience, daily value, the objective is to build a relationship with them, you have to make sure they will keep coming back to see your content everyday. Think about horoscopes, or daily news or recipes, stuff like that.

It must be quick to consume: As I said before, no one wants to waste valuable seconds reading a long post or watching a long video, users must be able to consume your content as quickly as possible.

Ive just finished reading jab, jab, jab, right hook, Gary Vees book about content and storytelling (by the way, read it if you can, its awesome), the book had a few interesting examples of micro content that I wanted to share with you:



This is an example from a Netflix campaign, they were promoting the new season of Arrested Development, and they only used this small piece of content for that, the fans of the series understand it right away.



This is another example, the photo is clean and simple, and the message is very easy to read and understand, and its also funny, the perfect combination.

    One of the most important concepts of social media is your strategy. If you don't have a social media strategy you're probably not going to get great results.

    You want to make sure that you are engaging at all times. On such an inexpensive platform, there is an enormous opportunity on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc..

    Speaking of those, you want to make sure your strategy is consistent on all of those platforms. It should not be the same content, but just the same strategy.

    Micro-content. Definitely sounds like an interesting concept. I sure hope it isn't associated with micro payments, lol. Great point btw. Cheers!
