YouTube idea - is this a good business plan start?

Hi everyone.

I was around the Warrior Forum around 5/6 years ago when I specialised in Adsense and Amazon Affiliates. I earned a fairly good income, but I lost interest as I dedicated more time to my family.

Anyway, things have changed and I am interested in knowing more about YouTube, specifically creating a channel for young kids. I have the ability to create similar videos to the ones I have seen and wondered how easy it is to build up viewing numbers and earn good money. I dabbled with YouTube when setting my Amazon Affiliate websites - I made a little money from product review videos.

The idea is this:

- Create a YouTube channel with multiple videos (many of the successful channels I've been keeping an eye on upload 2 - 5 videos weekly).
- I'm looking at around $4 - $7 per 1,000 ad views, but I'm not sure if that depends on the niche (for example, are young kids likely to bypass the ads?).
- YouTube will take around 50% of this.
- There will be little video editing costs my end. It will only be my time and effort at stake.
- Promote via social media to increase views and subscribers.
- I could monetise further with affiliate links to Amazon (for the toys), but it's unlikely to amount to anything as the target audience is children.

I know the videos, especially for kids, have to be bright, colourful and cheerful.

I've looked around this forum for more specific information about monetising using YouTube, but I've not found much apart from those who have tried and have struggled building up subscribers.

Is there anything else I should be thinking about before attempting this idea?

Thanks for any input.

    Hey ...

Not sure if you are aware of the latest changes in Youtube. With the recent changes, ads revenue is not available until that channel reached 10k Views. You can google about that for more information. So, if your main monetization is thru ads .. take this into consideration.

But if you create videos properly and promote them to get more views, you should be reaching that count pretty soon. (Just make sure you have proper SEO & sharing strategies, etc.,)

I hope you are aware/considered special terms & conditions on Amazon if your target audience are kids. I don't have them on top of my mind, but if you check on their site, you should get some information.

Thank you very much! I'll probably leave out Amazon as there is no point adding affiliate links.

Do you know where to promote YouTube videos for kids? How does one get to promote videos after another video has ended (or does YouTube decide)?

It depends on the age of the kids that you're targeting, but you could try targeting parents to encourage them to get their kids to watch the videos...

I don't think you need to dropout that idea of Amazon. Jst take a look at their terms. Also, check if they are accepting only YouTube channels or not(Not sure if intended to have a website though). They asked website when I signed up a while back. Not sure abt the current terms.

Regd the next videos... You have an option to setup an 'End Card' to promote your next video. If you create a Playlist & if some one watches a video from your playlist ... then it is bit different, next in the list settings wud played (provided the viewer has enabled AutoPlay option, If I remember correctly)

        Hope that helps ...

All the best. I suggest, you also promote your youtube videos on other social media platforms such as facebook, twitter, google plus etc. This will increase the views and make your channel popular.

Yes it is. Especially now that video marketing is skyrocketing the digital marketing world. YouTube is a great way to promote your startup business and reach out to more customers. However, it's just part of your whole marketing strategy. You need to refine your marketing strategy in order to promote your campaign effectively.

I think this is a bit risky in your situation... but I believe that you can manage! Since kids are your target audience, take into account their attention span and ways to get kids' attention while making their parents comfortable when their kids watch your videos. Appealing not only the kids but to other viewers is also a great way to organically spread your content to other future viewers.

From what I hear when speaking to different social media analysts and youtubers right now is a very good time to start a business on youtube. By creating a channel aimed at children you avoid the stricter ad requirements and you get a very high CPM. I've heard of toy channels receiving upwards of $10 CPM not including sponsorships and affiliate sales.
