Ooh, no, but I learned a bit of Chinese a while ago and RenRen means... person person (lol) and Weibo, I'm not sure but Wei is a phone greeting for 'hello'. You wouldn't say 'wei' if you saw someone on the street, but you'd say 'wei' to answer the phone.

Wei? Wo ren! Wo MattVit! Wo bu ai ni. Ni xiao bai ren. Wo bu xiao bai ren.

Um, yeah, sorry to go off topic in your thread, but I couldn't resist...

Not exzactly..."Wei" is the same pron to "hello" in chinese, but the "wei" in "weibo.com" means micro, "bo" equal to "blog". "weibo"="micro blog" a chinese version of twitter.

There are some big dogs in chinese social marketing, some people or companies have many valueable accounts in social network. But if you want to make profits from there, you should do much work before make any movement...

The chinese enviroment is very complex from west world and the IM style is far away from here.

So you can definitely make money there , but never easily.

    Hello James,

I think I know what you are up to and if my huch is correct you are even more of a marketing maestro than I've always felt you are. I won't mention it just in case you are purposely keeping the details under wraps.

    Good luck --- It's always a pleasure.

Hey there Ernie my friend. I am not looking at the China Market for Pro Elite. Although...maybe I should...haha
I just got back from Shanghai and my main client here in San Diego is looking at doing some business there. It's my role and position to learn about Social Media strategies in all countries.
      See you in Vegas?

    Hi James,

Wondering how your work in China or your understanding of Chinese social media is going. I'm also very interested in IM in China and travel there often and would want to understand more about this area.

Hello everyone! Since I just joined, I thought it be nice for me to contribute something. FYI, I live and run an internet-based business in China. And yep, we do all kinds of internet marketing. So I am quite familiar with the landscape. China is a VERY different IM animal than anyone who is not in China will realize. My background is that I ran (and still own) a internet marketing consultancy agency back in the states and was also an avid IM'er. I ran the gamut from CPA to Adsense. But being that the market is so saturated, I turned my sites towards China. I am chinese BTW. But I don't read nor write a lick of it! I've been in China now for over 2 years. And believe me when I say that the China IM market is WIDE OPEN! Nothing at all like the overly saturated, flooded with a million gurus market back in the states.

Two ways to make a million....get 1 million from one client or get 1 dollar from a million clients. Well, there are currently over a BILLION people in China! So I'll take the dollar, please! (Oh, did I say a million? I meant a BILLION!)

Suthan M., the girl who sold $90K worth of masks over the internet did so through her TaoBao. It's actually not that unusual! TaoBao is the Amazon/Ebay of China. It's actually bigger than either one of them. And actually is partially owned by Yahoo. Yep, the same Yahoo that owns part of Amazon!

Social Media is very well developed here and in many ways more advanced than even the US! Fierce competition. But one thing is that you MUST know the SM landscape and how to navigate it in order to take advantage of it. Chinese people have very different reactions to marketing than you may be used to. And are very, very distrustful. But the chinese mindset is much more geared towards entrepreneurship than anywhere else in the world! This is a money driven and money hungry society. It is just how our culture is. Money is not so much about material things as it is about respect and being able to take care of family. To understand this is the first step to hitting the IM market. But one big caveat....everything internet here is highly, highly regulated and one misstep could destroy all your efforts!

    Hope that gives some insight!

P.S. I'm in China so if anyone is looking to do any business here, IM or otherwise, drop me a line. My business here is completely legit and aboveboard and will keep it that way so no blackhatter's!

Great thread. If you really want to dig into Chinese Social Media, install Google Chrome and start surfing. The first thing you should do is download QQ International so you can start communicating with people.

Here is a link to China's version of Warrior Forums (A great place to start):
