Hi everyone,

I understand the concept of inviting your existing customers to your Twitter and Facebook accounts, creating more followers and friends so that they can be kept up to date etc and a relationship can be built.

My question is can Facebook and Twitter be used to GENERATE traffic to be sent to your site/squeeze page?

Many thanks.

One of the best ways to send people to your squeeze page in facebook is to create groups/fan pages with keyword phrases in your niche and then stack fans/people in it so it ranks at the top of the fb search.

People will do a search for the keyword phrase, your page will be at the top and you are running the page

I recently had experience where I held a mini giveaway event for just social media traffic. Facebook and Twitter were the main traffic sources that were used.

After about 2 weeks of trying to generate traffic to this small FREE GIFTS event, there were over 10k clicks to the event.

However, from these 10k+ clicks the sqz page asking just for the email address converted just 5 - 10 subscribers.

I recommend never to use FB or Twitter for traffic as a result of this.

    My 2 Cents.

Don't be so quick to throw in the towel, Kelvin. Sales results include more than just number of clicks. They also include how well the traffic is targeted and the conversion rate of the page.

      Wow, really ??

I dont generate nearly as much traffic as you do Kelvin, but I am getting about 15% Conversion rate on my squeeze page.

i definitely do recommend using Social Media to generate traffic.

However, LinkedIn, is my number 1 traffic generator.

The Groups within LinkedIn are Goldmines.

The best way to get traffic on Facebook would be to buy it through PPC ads in my opinion. Other than that, facebook traffic isn't that reliable.

Yes I realize that facebook and twitter do get a little traffic here and there, but I would like to know if anyone knows how to get true targeted traffic day in and day out?

It would be best to have a fan page and a group. Just don't spam and keep providing value. People will start following you and next thing you know, these people look forward to anything that involves you. PPC would also be a good option.

Twitter to me is just a pure traffic generation engine.

You need to build a list of TARGETED followers based on carefully selected keywords and send them to your blog when you have a new post.

Also, put a link to your blog in the bio and in a "thanks for following" direct message when somebody follows you for the first time.

You can then either have an optin box in your blog sidebar, use a popup or link to your squeeze page from various places on your blog to collect email addresses.

Doing things this way will prevent you from being labelled a spammer and getting your account banned.

It may not be the best way but it may generate some traffic without any cost; it would be a waste to neglect that. Try to keep the activity of your fanpage up always and try to give some content to those who follow it, these may be taken from the original site.

Ensure that your facebook page is a like page for your product/event and not your personal page.

I don't mind friends who ask me to like their business page, but hate it when they tag me in things they are selling or post to my wall. Just my 2cents.

    Same goes with twitter

I use tweetadder, and automate the Thank You reply to new followers with my URL, also, it DM's them with my URL, adds new followers, and have a URL link in my twitter profile that brings in traffic, plus your tweets. Just twitter alone can bring you hundreds or thousands of free visits a month, easily. Facebook is another animal to talk about...

Social media is great traffic as long as you have a plan and direction for your traffic. A fan page is great for getting leads, but not great at social commerce. That is why a lot of large retailers dropped their Facebook shops. Have people sign up, send them great content as mentioned previously, and continue to follow up.

Yes but that depends on your niche. There are some niche that do not really get helped through social media like facebook for instance. E.g your niche is about plants, would someone buy a plant through facebook?

If you aren't using FB and Twitter to drive traffic, you are leaving out a BIG piece of the puzzle! It is free traffic, targeted to your niche, and CAN be viral if done right. Spend the necessary time at it. Many of us can't afford paid traffic, so social media is a life saver for us. Good luck!

One thing I found works is if you don't shove the offer down the throat of the viewer. Instead of immediately asking for the email submit when the viewer hits the squeeze page, try using interesting but unfinished articles. When they click the link to read the entire article, they are shown the email submit.

Ya, very much possible. Open social media fan pages using your keywords and invite your friends to join the group. These fans, if they are interested, will be good prospect for your site.

Of course. I suggest making some sort of incentive for people to actually like your facebook page or follow you on twitter. For example, like us on facebook and get 20 percent off ... think about it? You create a seperate tab on your facebook profile for the "coupon" or whatever and you will get way more followers and much more business.

I think Twitter can be your web traffic source especially if you already built a targeted and engaging tweeps. I guess it boils down on how you use Twitter effectively to reach and build relationships with your followers so you could drive massive web traffic to your site or with your squeeze page.

90% of my traffic comes from social media. I expect one day that the Google Algorithm will be based on your social status one of these days.

There are many ways that you can drive traffic to your site from places like Facebook and Twitter. I think keywords and hashtags have already been said. But it's very true!

Also, you can research different trends in Twitter to find out what people are searching.

I wrote a more detailed post about it called Twitter Tools For Fast Traffic

    Hiya,

For my various online business, most of my clients are actually coming from the updates that I post on my twitter/facebook/pinterest/my likes/g+ and many more....

However, I have business cards and flyers and others that I give it in pubs and clubs normally out of 100 flyers I get 10 new people following me. Sometimes I do sponser small events and get some followers and sometimes I do actually pick up SME customers and they do follow and even their followers do follow for my business account.

You can try them if you are actually involving your customers from a grass root level.

    Best Wishes

I would try to add valuable content to your Social media pages. A good way is to offer promotions/contests. There are services out there that help bring the friends of your existing fans over to your product/service. You just have to play around with the right tools to see what works for you.

Social Media traffic is a whole other type of traffic. Most users are busy with status updates, liking pictures, updating their status, following people so the attention span is less focused. Good for a quick burst of traffic, but not as responsive as let's say email marketing.

However, I do make few sales from social media, it all depends on how you present the offer. When you hard sell, that will definitely turn your audience off, if you add value to the conversation ask questions about your related offer and mix it in, the soft-sell approach, you can convert some sales.

I've sold some products in the $47 - $97 range with couple tweets. The more audience you have the better and I must add, posting more often does help because your messages are viewed more. Twitter is good for posting often, don't post too often on facebook, facebook is more for relationship building and keeping up with your jv partners etc.

I agree that it can be sporadic, but that is where you have to create a social media presence online. Like I said above, most of my traffic comes from social media sites.

It can be done, but like other things, you have to dedicate a schedule and work hard at it to make it work.

Comparing email marketing to social media traffic is apples and oranges.

The people that sub'd into your list are targeted prospects and they actually want you to send them information. Social media traffic is a little different in that you have to get their attention other ways.

Sure it's different. But it's a different form of strategy.

Its all about targetting other like minded fanpages, engaging the other users and getting th em back to your fanpage or to click your link.

Same as any forum etc, its got be quality information you're offering and in the right place.

Also, for your fan page, look at the demographics, find out where the majority of followers are.. if they are in the UK then post at a good time UK wise, so after 6 when most people finish work. If you're timing of posts isnt right, it could just be missed down there timeline.
