Hey

I'm new here. I'm 21, and I've been working from home for a few years due to health problems (I won't bore you with them :p)

I mainly write articles, although for the past year I've been a social media consultant for a very big American name. I love it, and would like to do it for more people, but the company won't allow me to use their name. They want to remain confidential. If I could, I don't believe I'd have any problem getting more clients...

Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions I'd be really grateful, if not, hopefully I'll get to know everyone soon!

    Hi Elles -

There are lots of products that teach how to be a social media manager and start your own business.

If you just do a search in the WSO forum, you could find some.

Ryan Deiss has a program - I haven't bought it, but I have a lot of respect for Ryan. I'm not sure if it's allowed to add a link, so just do a Google search on "Ryan Deiss Social" and the first result is a free mp3. That would be a good place to start!

With skill at writing articles and an ability to follow directions, you can go far. There is plenty of advice from multiple sources here. Just find the advice and follow it.

It's what you do when no one is watching
that determines what you will be able to
    do when everyone is watching.

Make up a website of your own..
And slowly move away, you can promote the site many ways, just search on the WF "how to advertise a site" I'm sure there will be many threads, I hope that helps.

    Thank you all so much.

I'll do some searching and start taking notes! This seems such a friendly community, I'm very glad I joined.

Is it worth paying the extra to join the War Room? I've been considering it all day, but I don't know if I should wait until I've used all the free information I can find first?

Thanks again for all the advice.

Let me put it this way, before you spend a single dime on a WSO, join the War Room. It is worth the extra money if you can afford it.

I know how you feel about not using their name. Can you instead ask for a testimonial or recommendation from them?

As Arran said, I suggest you set up your own website telling the world who you are and how you can help people with their social media challenges. This will be your first step in branding yourself. Doesn't matter if you're working a day job at all. Most people get started on the side while working for another company.

If you can introduce yourself to any local businesses you know who need help with their social media, you might be able to land yourself a small job that you can manage while still working for the nameless company. You'll have to do some long hours to start with, but getting a couple small clients and testimonials will help you move slowly toward doing this full time for yourself.

Check out the Offline Marketing discussion group. There are many people in there who are full time social media consultants. You'll even find some ready-to-go websites for marketing your services. You'd just have to customize them.

    Best of luck!
