Pinterest and affiliate links

Hi everyone,

Sorry for my english, i'm french

I have a problem with pinterest and affiliate links. I use clickbank and amazon (just for test).

Clickbank: when i upload an image and i put an affiliate link on it, it works for a couple of hours and than clickbank show me: affiliate = none. Why? Also, bitly.com and clickbank don't work together :/

Amazon: i don't know how it really works. when someone clicks on the image and goes to amazon, the link doesn't have "tag=my_pseudo". Does it mean that the affiliate link doesn't work correctly?

Can someone help me, please?

PS: ones again, sorry for my english ..

Yes, looks like your id is getting stripped out somehow. Mine always shows in the url when it goes to amazon.

You need to scrub your links.

    with something like linktrackr

where you take your affiliate link and make it like www . mydomain dot com /product_name

I advise you to use your own domain for redirection.

Yes, making them personalized would be better.

quite a few options out there for that.

OK. I tried it. I used my own domain for redirection.

    www.mydomain.com/redirection

so it works when it is not on pinterest. But when i put the link on pinterest the tag=mypseudo doesn't exist. It is strange

EDIT: do you know a free alternative to linktrackr?

That's been happening for a few days now. Ever since that report of the spammer who was earning $1000+ per day.

      HTH,

I believe there are some workings going on with Pinterest at the moment as they have become very popular yet seems to be very little in monetary momentum for the Pinterest team. Question:-

If you owned a site that was becoming very very busy and you were not making any money from it would you allow others to benefit from your site?

I know that I myself would not be too happy from others utilising my site.... Just my thoughts on it.

I didn't realize that Pinterest wasn't making much money. They've gotten pretty big pretty quickly. I don't know why I just assumed they were making a lot of money.

Yeah, it always blows my mind when I hear about these sites with massive traffic, making no money, too. Like Instagram.. Two years old, no profit, and all of a sudden - sold! for $1 Billion dollars (to Facebook).

Pinterest apparently trialled SkimLinks for a while in February, which strips out your affiliate link, and replaces it with their own. Personally, I think that is reasonable (if they were to split it 50/50 with their users) but for now, as far as I know, they are not currently using it.

I just took a look and, while I really like the appearance of your(?) site (very slick, and the 'invite-only' optin was a nice touch!), there was not a lot of information there...

For instance, where is the privacy policy, and about page? Do you take a cut of the commissions and, if so, what percentage? Are you affiliated with Pinterest in any way? (I'm guessing not)

Next week we will add links to the privacy policy, terms and conditions and about us pages, so they could be open to everybody (now only to registered users).

We take a cut. Currently about 25%, because we cooperate with affiliate networks and affiliate aggregators, so most of those cuts (in case of some merchants everything) we pay to intermediaries.

We are not affiliated with Pinterest. We are London startup, which made a pivot from Facecontact, which was Seedcamp (UK startup competition) finalist.

P.s. Please also vote for us on MassChallenge startup competition.

I am really worried that amazon may not like their affiliate posting links/spamming on pinterest. They have a zero tolerance of affiliate links on comments in blogs, etc. Not sure of piniterest yet but I assume the same might apply. My advise for amazon marketers would be to use their website links or redirect them to your affiliate site rather than posting the affiliate links on pinterest.

    Hi,

I'm using my own redirection script on my website and I have no problem.
I believe the trick is to use variable names that are not standard. For example, I'm into a program called ZeekRewards, among other things they provide you with a shop, if the take the URL of a product it contains a variable "UserName=xxxxxxx", Pinterest will strip that. But in my custom script I use two variables named "dest" and "d", dest being the destination and d a delay so that it doesn't appear to be a redirection. Example:

    TweetAdder

This link will take you to an affiliate link of mine (for TweetAdder) and it doesn't get modified by Pinterest, bit.ly sees nothing and treats it as any other link, Twitter doesn't see anything either.

It's quite a simple script really, I'll attach it to this post if it helps anyone. All you have to do is to keep filling the array by adding new links, just don't forget to increase the index each time.

    Seb.

PS: Of course you should rename it, "redirection.php" is a little bit too obvious

Do you use Facebook ? Then you can make money just by inviting people to a Facebook group ! It's called the Instant Income System. How cool is that?

It does not work from my computer. Please provide some other information.

That's a PHP script... You don't run it "on your computer" you need a web server. Unzip it, upload it to your web hosting, and then call it like in my example above, with the two variables in the URL.

Pinterest strips out affiliate links. You can either have your pin point to a review site or sales page that you create. Or use a redirect link.

I would like to learn the latest on the affiliate links.
This is what I know. Pinterest will ultimately strip all affiliate links that eventually lead to Amazon (I AM NOT SURE! this is what I have read in many places). So whatever tactic one uses I think ultimately if it lands on Amazon FROM pinterest, bam, affiliate link gone.
And why risk Amazon banning your affiliate account bcoz you are spamming pinterest.
    Safest tactic?
Lead the product to your affiliate site, and not amazon. Just my 2 cents!

Just to be safe - just have pinterest link back to your site with all your affiliate links on them.....

I am still very new to pinterest, still dont really get the hype just yet.

It's a bit overhyped just like most things in IM. There are some good sales to be made on pinterest but nothing that will make millions
