Mailchimp blocked my account

Today I sent out an email to my list and a little while later I got an email from mail chimp saying they had blocked me from sending emails because there was suspcious activity. The email was short and was just about bloggers to follow if you want to be self-employed.

They said to login and complete some process to try and resolve the matter, but I have not done it yet.

The real deal is I don't want to have to worry about dealing with stuff like this when I am sending an email out. I sent the same email out to a list I have on aweber and there was no issue with them.

Has anyone else had similar issues?

Yes. MailChimp hates marketing and doesn't want you doing it. That's why people here - many of whom have had their MailChimp accounts shut down without warning - constantly tell people:

    Don't use MailChimp

It's not because we don't like them. It's because they don't like us. We aren't welcome there, so don't go there. They're perfectly happy with that.

You shouldn't be using mailchimp. See this thread and the threads referenced in it:

    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...mailchimp.html

Forget trying to get your account back and focus on using a better service.

Yes. Hundreds of people. The forum's full of posts like this.

They have extremely restrictive terms of service, policies and procedures. They "exclude" so many things that it isn't easy to know who can use them safely. And it isn't just that you can't use their service for those things: you can't do any of those things (i.e. even without using their service for them) and be a Mailchimp customer, and they say that openly: Mailchimp not to be used for internet marketing?

Reading Warriors' comments about them, in general, strongly suggests that they attract a lot of "the kind of marketers who don't bother to read the terms of service" before entrusting their business's primary asset to them for safekeeping.

This is what can happen, with free autoresponders, though.

    Next recommended stop: GetResponse/Aweber.

That sucks. I hope you do not have a big list with them. I have never had a problem with Aweber. I have heard great things about Get Response as well.

  • Go with Aweber and you will never have this problem again. Also use double opt-in.

One more reason I switched to aweber. Been using them for 2+ years now, no complaints whatsoever

They have TOS that do not allow Internet Marketers to use their service. Their argument is internet marketing/ affiliate marketing's open rate is very low and it could effect their entire system's delivery rate.

Aweber and GetResponse are better options for Internet Marketers.

  • Well, I downloaded my list from mailchimp and closed the account. I am glad to hear such good things about aweber and hope to have a long stay there.

Yes its against mailchimps TOS for you to use it for affiliate marketing. Aweber is safe, well known, trusted and the best!

I strongly recommended Mailchimp for a customer, and guess what. After paying and registering for it, we send a couple of test emails, mailchimp blocked the account with no explanation. Only said that the message "Terms of service violation "

I normally wouldn't sanction a four-year-old thread bump but this seems to be a current issue as well.

I had a MC account that has been dormant for about six months. I sent out a broadcast two days ago and got an email telling me my account had been disabled.

No reason was given as to why, except TOS violation.

Not an issue for me, but maybe they have made some changes?

Thanks for you reply and for sharing that information.
What is really frustrating it's that they simple blocked account and the money that the company invested in the account with no explanation. Mailchimp assume their customers are trying to cheat them instead of helping people learning their tool.
It's a very arrogant company. We have other mail tools options.

Mailchimp is free but has always been anti-internet-marketer. Not a good option ever for an IMer to use. GetResponse is one I've used and was happy with.
