Why you Should NOT Buy Twitter Followers

It's no doubt that Twitter is huge and the amount of Followers you have is equivalent to your social reach. One thing is for sure, and that is most businesses that begin social marketing campaigns want the Twitter Followers and Facebook Likes and often times go to any lengths to get them.

That gave birth to a very lucrative business in selling Facebook Likes and Twitter Followers. As promising as it sounds, there are many reasons why it is a waste of money in the long run.

1. The accounts used to Like and Follow you are usually automated bots that add and delete thousands of friends at a time. Most of the time you will lose those likes/follows in a week.

2. All of the fake accounts significantly drop your Click-through-rate to links if you use sponsored tweets or similar network. Advertisers will know if you have legitimate followers or not.

The really only best way in my opinion to get Likes and Follows is through exchange websites where you earn credits for Following people and other people follow you in return. Even then, a lot of people end up UnFollowing you if they aren't interested.

That's why instead of wasting all this time and money trying to Buy Followers you could be providing interesting Content, tips and Media that people will actually Like and Share.

Or... you could actually spend a little time each day seeking people with similar interests to yours and follow them. Many will follow back. People might be surprised at how fast you can build a legit following.

When building 10/15/20 affiliate websites on a weekly basis, you don`t have time to make followers for each and every one of them. So some of the IMers out there build a twitter account account and get some fake followers just to make it look like they have an interesting twitter account, so others will join.

But you need to have some followers before it's worth spending a lot of time providing interesting content. Not saying you should buy followers, but you need to get them somehow to get started.

Just have to make sure you are using a reputable vender that guarantees real followers that don't unfollow as soon as you get them.

Finally someone who understands what's going on.

Nothing wrong at all with it. In fact all the big people on Social Media (especially twitter) did it. Just look at Guy Kawasaki. The guy has 1M+ followers but only gets a few retweets on his tweets.

Yet he is the biggest Guru in Social Media.

But still it is effective just for the "show" to have followers, especially for an offline business. Same goes regarding likes, pins etc...

but in long run, it is not going to improve your biz drastically..

The main reason buying Facebook and Twitter followers is a waste is because it DOESN'T DO ANYTHING.

Nobody is going to start following your tweets just because they see that you have a bunch of followers.

Social proof doesn't apply unless it comes from a credible source.

Like, people don't start following a band because they read in some fake music magazine that that band sold a million albums. They start following a band either because they heard them on the radio, or had it recommended to them by a friend.

This "recommendation by a friend" is the only kind of social proof that actually counts. If your Twitter followers aren't actually posting stuff regularly to their own group of real life Twitter followers, then you being on their follow list does nothing. And I mean, NOTHING! Not "very little," I mean literally NO EFFECT WHATSOEVER!

In fact, you could make the case that having a bunch of fake Twitter followers or Facebook fans is actually HURTING your business!

    Think about it!

You stumble onto this Facebook page and you see 10,000 fans and no real posts.

What are you going to think about that?

Most likely something along the lines of "ohhhh man, this is pathetic as hell, I'm not touching this with a ten foot pole."

Does anyone have any common sense anymore??

No theres nothing common about sense. Its very simple if you want friends. To get some just be interesting, funny, knowledgeable or all 3 even better. You will gather a following if you have a) an idea b) a brain c) some sociability (you usually get that skill by peeling yourself off your computer from time to time) and d) a plan, and if you must - and you have a product, then get FB advertising and advertise to your target marget. You will then get quality leads that are actually interested in your content and convert into $$$$

There iss nothing wrong with buying 1,000 followers or so per month when you first start a business (or twitter page for your business) to establish credibility. No potential clients want to see a page with 12 followers... once your business gets off the ground and followers come naturally there's no longer a need to buy any. I recommend starting with a good follower base by buying them, then providing quality tweets that lead to natural growth.

        I don't see it as a "lie".
I see it as a marketing "trick" and not a "lie".
In the resto or restaurant market, when a new place is opened it is very common that the owner invites some friends and friends of his friends to go for free to the restaurant during the first days.
When people walking by the street see clients sitting inside the new place, they will not think "oh, nobody comes here...something must go wrong with this restaurant".
If food, drinks and service are good, the newcomers will return and the ball starts to roll. Otherwise, the biz will die naturally.
No "cheat", just a legit "trick".

Personally, I have bought fans and followers before, and have had mixed results. However, if you really must buy, then I suggest heading to Fiverr and searching for such gigs providing these services. Just make sure you choose the highest rated/good response ones to avoid getting burnt..

A simple method would be to use boardreader.com to arbitrage a bunch of different opportunities for you to input your opinion & if you generate enough unique/quality content across the board, naturally you will see a following begin to emerge.

Focus mainly on learning your demographic & your market you are trying to cater towards... come up with useful, insightful content & blanket it across the net only using your twitter handle as login / backlink for the effort

          Just my 2 cents

p.s. as far as the overall topic goes, I agree there are some more than relevant circumstances where one would benefit greatly from buying followers or any social media marketing service, as long as they choose the right provider. Having been in the business 6+ years myself, it can be hard to determine who to trust, make sure they are reviewed & offer smaller test packages in order to test the service out, before you sink $1000+ into a bad/not trusted site.

In a nutshell though, research shows us a potential fan or end user who comes to your page and sees what appears to be an already established following - they are 4-6x more likely to then follow that page as well

The problem is the fake followers make you look desperate and cause potential customers to run away in terror. Basically it makes you look like bigfoot.

Exactly. For branding purposes and credibility it's important that you look like your popular but if you actually want to develop a relationship with the audience and sell/market to them, the bots can't buy anything

Funny how the only one who came out strongly in favor of buying followers is the guy selling them in his sig. Go figure...

I can only think of one instance where this kind of purchase makes any sense at all.

On Facebook, I would consider buying exactly 25 'likes' in order to secure the custom url from the start.

      That's it.

Otherwise, you come across like the nerdy kid in the movies who shows people a picture of his 'girlfriend', and it's the photo that came with the wallet...

ok so I don't completely understand how this works can someone explain it to me.

If you were to buy 100 twitter followers or facebook likes are you paying one person who has 100 different twitter or facebook accounts and he is using those accounts to follow and like you?

Or is it actually 100 real breathing live people who are being paid to like or follow you?
It doesn't make sense that it would be people who are being paid as $5 split 100 days is pitiful, lol

So my next question is, if it is one dude out there who has a 100 accounts and he is using those accounts to like and follow you then how exactly does that help?

Because in that case all you done was paid one person to like you 100 times. One potential customer who probably will not buy from you.

That just doesn't make business sense to me

Is this close to how it happens?

    Thanks

To be honest I do use accounts occasionally with "botted" followers, however they can still be used for a purpose.
I generally use accounts with bought followers to advertise products to people who have tweeted, so that when they briefly check your profile you seem more legitimate.
But I completely agree, there is no point trying to convert sales on a tweet to an account with paid followers.

Buying followers on Twitter is an act of stupidity.....The best would be you spent some hours and follow the people who follow back There are free list available just Google.

You can even follow 2000 selected profiles and you'll end up getting at least 600-700 followers in return. But what matters is whether you have targeted followers and they are listening to you....The key is engagement.

I think buying followers is only necessary when you start, that way people will think you're legitimate. 1000 followers at maximum to start the momentum. Tweet good content, start blogging, link your blog from twitter, have your CPA offer on your blog and voila.. watch the cash cow be milked.

While there is no sustainability in buying followers, it can help to "get the ball rolling".
Often, in the service industries, you'll see tip jars on counters. Employees most often add a few dollars of their own into the jar at the start of the day so that customers think that other customers have already been tipping... and so should they.
    Nothing wrong with that.

Buying twitter followers is a waste of time and money. Majority of these accounts are either fake or too much egoistic meaning that they are't interested in sharing or interacting. They are focusing too much on self promotion.

    Hi

When you buy Twitter followers, chances are that these people will not read, comment or contribute anything to your Twitter account. Best case scenario: some of these accounts will be actual people and while they will see your tweets when logged in, they will not necessarily be interested in what you have to say.

Ya buying twitter followers is really only beneficial as social proof. Nothing else. Most twitter follow services drop off as time goes on too so you actually lose followers which could hurt your social credibility more than you gained by having a lot more followers

buying followers on Twitter is really not the most ideal practice. it is not practical shelling out whatever sum of money. i am in favor of the old-school way of networking with sites, or twitter accounts, in this case, of similar interests as you and building your followings from there. of course, this might be time-consuming but will all be worth it in the end.

I agree with the OP points.

Another tip: invest the same amount of money you would like to spend to buy Twitter Followers in learning an organic and natural strategy to grow them while improving the engagement of your tweets.

If you're gonna buy automated Twitter followers, then you may as well download a bot that does it for you and go big league.

Social media likes are often worth more $$$ than stolen credit card numbers.

Usually the followers are either from a) bots or b) real users with virus infected computers.

Either way, by buying those you are contributing to a shady business.

It's a waste of money. You would be better off spending your money to find five legitimate followers that are interested in what you have to say than 10000 followers that don't care what you say.

  • The concept of buying popularity online might seem like a new one to some, but it has been around for as long as the social media trend itself.

In fact, Google Adword keyword tool shows that over 70 000 Google searches are performed monthly for the keywords "buy Twitter followers", and over 130 000 for "buy followers", confirming that this once well-kept secret is rising in popularity.

Buying followers might look as an easy technique to reach your social media targets but it adds no value to the business. It neither creates reputation nor brings in more customers. You may call it a cheap trick to impress visitors or the management and the results are only short lived. Serious businesses consider metrics like user engagement and sentiment analysis rather than fan following to measure the social media performance.

    Couldn't agree more, OP.

I see and hear about people on Fiverr doing this schtick, and it always seems shady to me....to get 10K followers like, real quick, obviously one needs some kind of a proxy to do this.

Strongly disagree with this thread, and yes for all you eagle eyed warriors - I do sell followers! The main reason that you have bad experiences with buying followers or any other forms of social products is because you purchased from crap vendors.

I'm guessing you guys paid mere dollars for thousands of your chosen products? These accounts are super spammy and only built to last days at most, they're a churn and burn product. You need to pay the price for quality followers/likes that look real and do not drop-off over time.

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, just like everything in life!

Likes/followers are the metrics by which the wider public judge your popularity, and thus naturally all of the big business/brands/celebrities have tonnes of followers. Buying social products is all about PERCEPTION, if you LOOK popular you look authoritative, simple as that.

I challenge anybody so show me well-known an industry/niche leader with a small number of followers - good luck with that one.

The real value of purchased likes/followers lays when you use them as a kick-start or boost to supplement a solid content strategy, your efforts will be massively amplified, I know because I've done it multiple times and wouldn't bother selling my products otherwise.

In the past, I have bought twitter followers, I don't recommend it. There are a lot of fake accounts out there that is BS and these users are inactive. Sometimes they aren't targeted to your niche.

    any way good luck

I think it goes without saying... You get what you pay for with ANYTHING in IM...

So don't think those 10,000 followers for $5 are going to be quality. I was saying in my earlier post that there are some legit providers out there who dont use bots & utilize targeted followers to aggregate to an end-users account via natural pathways of promotion...

Some out there just want the big number follower counts to appear like they have an impact, others utilize services quite a few tiers above those types

Purchasing "fake" Twitter accounts or followers will get you nowhere. Rather, it will hurt your online reputation because:
    1) You do not know types of followers you will be getting
    2) Your engagement score will drop
    3) You risk ruining your online reputation

Ultimately the thing that actually matters is CONTENT. You need really valuable content that people love to share. Instead of focusing on purchasing likes and followers, focus on creating valuable content and the rest will be done by the reader itself.

Hmn. You see, I get where you are coming from friend. But, For everything in life there are always as much advantages as their are disadvantages. It depends on what direction you decide to look and whether you decide to look further down the line or just what the instant complaints and "buts" are. Whenever I hope to increase sales through any of our twitter pages I simply do something logically stupid to most. Increase the twitter followers to 100s of thousands!! ; then you know the advantages of having a big outlook... This is more like building from the outside in, but it works!! For myself and our clever Clients. Why do you think some skinny ugly guys pump the bars and irons? To get the girls far above their class...... Have a splendid splendid day friend.

Yes. Your targeted number of followers is reachable when you buy them and obviously may take a lot of money. On the other side, you can reach your targets without spending more money but you'll take time, effort and determination to it. These includes, posting or sharing quality content, images, videos, building relationship with business owners with same niche and many more. In that way, followers will follow you naturally without any single doubt.

That's why I'd rather take my time, following people/business relevant to my niche or have the same interests as mine than buying followers. I've "been there, done that" before, and based on my personal experience it is not worth it. Unless, if you get in to ads, that's a different story.
