Buying Twitter Followers?

Has anyone else seen this article at Chicago's Daily Herald

And what does the forum think of this and to those of you who think that the next wave of SEO will involve social media twitter--does this impact or change your opinion about that at all?

Also do you think buying followers is worth it for marketing purposes?

xats.

buying followers is not that good idea, cause 99% of all websites claims that they are REAL, but surely - they are all fake!

yes, I agree with you, there are many fake accounts, they were never active, they are only active a few years ago, perhaps the first account created.

People misunderstand the purpose of buying followers, think somebody noted above its purpose is to give your twitter/facebook account a kick start, with few people following you who is really going to want to follow you?

There are as also mentioned very few social media providers that actually provide real followers and other social services. However there are some that exist, and I just happen to know of a few (due to years of experience)

Not going to advertise any site's that I have used but there is one company in particular I have used in my last 3 campaigns with great success, and actually although I didn't expect it, a fair porpotion of the followers i got were very responsive, of course you can't beat organic methods for sure. But grabbing some followers to get a kick start? Would recommend everytime, just don't look for the absolute cheapest option (i.e. fiverr) as the risk of getting your account banned nowdays is very likely. However that doesn't mean it has to cost you an arm and a leg.

Feel free to message me if you want any recommendations.

Social media is doing really well for online marketers. The one thing that will make huge difference for many people who are using them in the right way is that they will get more subscribers and earn more sales.

2nd, I really don't think that "buying" followers will make any difference for you.

What will work really nice is that fact that you can use Twitter and Facebook out of all the places for social media and buy a spot on their platform kind of like pay per click ads that you would normally buy on Google and Yahoo (bing).

If you are going to use them, it is better to use them for PPC purposes only.

Actually buying followers works very well. Even the CEO of Twitter itself has 30% bot followers.

You will buy these followers for 2 reasons:

      1) To make it 500% more likely that people who see your profile will follow you cause they see that you already have a big following (social proof).

      2) To pass the twitter follow limit of 2000 followers so you can mass follow people in your niche without getting suspended (wouldn't be possible if you didn't buy the followers). This will increase your Twitter Presence dramatically.

I think social media sites are focusing on our engagement more than number of members now. For example accounts that have a high number of retweets, user comments, likes etc are more likely to be featured and given exposure than an account with 100k followers and little to no engagement.

Don't be fooled by the vanity of a large list of followers. Start small, get them interacting and you'll see much better results.

    1. The next wave isn't fake followers. You need to get real followers.

    2. I have not seen real followers being advertised anywhere, at least not for a reasonable rate.

    3. Real followers who are genuinely interested in you voluntarily are worth t least $1-10 per follower. Unless you can pay $1000 for like 150-200 followers maybe more, I don't think you are ready for buying real followers otherwise.

    4. For the above you will need advanced ppc etc know how anyway.

What is it that you're trying to accomplish by buying fake Twitter followers? I've never bought anything just because the company has 100K Twitter followers or 10K Facebook likes.. Nothing more than creating the "illusion" of a legitimate business.

Exactamundo! Really, it's just a way to pad numbers:

When a real person sees the high number they'll say "Wow 12,000 followers" or "Likes". That's about it.

If you have a good idea to begin with, you'll get the likes and followers. There's no shortcut for quality.

If you have really good content in your tweets and buy Twitter followers just to pad the numbers, then others seeing will have the 'wow' factor and might want to follow. However, most likely it's the good quality tweets that will attract the followers rather than the bloated follower numbers.

Buying followers is the best thing you can do for yourself. Ignore the fact that they are fake when you get them and use your new big number to follow 300-500 REAL people every day.

The biggest issue in the beginning is the 2k bump you hit. With "fake" followers you can concentrate on getting real people and not be inhibited at the 2k mark

Follows that you buy have no loyalty for you or even want to see your tweets. Might take longer, but get them naturally, allow them to want to hear from you and they will click on your links cause they are interested.

A smaller targeted list of people that want to hear from u VS a large list of people that don't care.

Well I am sure you can see from there.

    good luck

So it all began one day with Bob & Joan..

Bob: You know... I feel like my Twitter account is a little light.

Joan: Start working hard to get more followers. I've already got 10..

Determined to beat Joan's 10 followers... Bob looks for a plan... he decides to BUY Followers, and adds 10s of thousands in the following day...

Joan adds 100 of hard earned followers... that ACTUALLY want to follow her.

Now whose business got the most impact? Clearly Joans... She has REAL followers who actually want to read her messages. Buying followers is like buying an ego hit, makes you feel good when you look at the numbers.

      Revised Bob and Joan.

Bob buys followers so he can follow 500 people every day that would be interested in following him back and in one week he has followed 3500 people and has gotten 1k-1500 GOOD FOLLOWS.

What has Joan got? Oh, she can't go past 2,000 follows because she refuses to buy followers, she doesn't have 1500 new good followers in one week.

      Poor uneducated Joan.

Well you can do the same thing for FREE.

You can follow up to 2,000 people. That is a limit but not a permanent one. I will explain.

So you click follow for 2,000 people.

Some of those people will follow you back.

Then what you can do is log into twitter click on followers

and for those people who are not following you click unfollow.

Then what you do is find more people to follow

and some of those new people will follow you and some won't

delete the people who aren't following you

Repeat this process until you have 2,000 followers.

Then Twitter will lift the limit that only allows you to follow 2,000 people.

Sure this will take a bit longer, it took me about 2-3 weeks. But it's free.

Yeah, because people that follow back are highly targeted leads... My post is based upon my opinion, my testing, I've purchased followers, and subsequently seen the results I received by it.

This is exactly what I did for a band I'm working with. Within one year they went from 200 followers to over 80k followers. Granted there ARE still some bought follows in that number but this has allowed them to gain anywhere from 20 - 100 new followers a day. They simply find a band that fits into their genre, go to the band twitter account or to the twitter account of one of the members and start adding. They are getting engagement from followers, people are favorite-ing their tweets and retweeting. They've even gotten themselves onto internet radio shows, sold iTunes downloads and merchandise thanks to this twitter campaign.

So I say buy followers to start, eventually most of them will fall off but you'll be adding real people who will engage with you and your brand.

I guess I will have to chime in and totally agree with Social Media Owls

You can buy twitter followers for the sole reason of looking established ,automatically you are more likely to get targeted followers after the purchase eg.if you run a twitter ad on their platform after purchasing abt 2000 followers..you will most likely have a more successful campaign than a different person doing a twitter ad with only 9 followers.:p

Some people will definately disagree but people are doing it and getting some good success from buying twitter followers in the start

        Cheers to the discussion

People follow you because they like something about you or anything about what you are doing. Buying or forcing people to follow you is not a good idea. They may hit the "follow" button but after that, what's next?

I am not a Twitter expert.

But to ask someone to flood your account with lots of people who would have no synergies or interest in your business doesn't make sense to me.

I judge accounts on their followers. A quick look tells me if they are focused on authentic twitter connections or whether they are working the numbers game and take all and sundry to join them.

The people who sell "real followers," "real friends," "real likes," say it works. Others say that buying a bunch of bot followers doesn't work. Facebook, of course, is now removing all those fake likes. I don't waste my time with fake bot followers.

First, if you buy followers there is no guarantee that they are genuine.
Second, you can use special software to build up your community in Twitter.
You can also not rely on "get followers" job, but instead buy real jobs step-by-step:
    creating account
inviting people 300 per day, using properly defined search term
    excluding unfollowers
    posting job

This can be totally different people, and you see all the work realtime

Completely worthless. The majority of the accounts are never even checked by humans. Twitter is mostly bots having conversations with one another.

Even high end marketers who coddle their accounts that I follow do nothing but schedule tweets using some tweet scheduler like SocialOomph or some junk like that.

I wouldn't waste a dime on something like that.

    Hi xattsman!

What is your main objective for buying twitter followers? If it is for business purposes, I think, it's not a good idea as your main goal is to bring in followers that could connect and have a conversation with you. Regardless of the idea whether purchased followers are real or fake, it is just about building quality followers that could turn into potential conversions.

Instead of focusing on quantity, I advise that you start creating quality content and link your Twitter account to your Facebook. There is no easy way in achieving marketing goals in Twitter, it's pure hard work and dedication.

Buying followers lowers your engagement rate. Brands think if they "look" like they're popular then they will actually become popular. This isn't the case, especially when a brand's goal should be to interact with fans through conversation and engaging posts.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[7148535].message }}
  • I believe that buying social media signals is important when 1st launching a brand.

It doesn't matter if it lowers engagement, etc. If a neutral Facebook user comes to your Facebook page and sees that you have a similar product to another company, who are they going to choose? Could be a toss up...

Now who do you think they are going to choose if the other company has 20k Facebook fans and yours has 100...my guess would be probably the more popular of the two. Perceived importance is better than actual importance.

As far as fake fans/followers...I have always bought from Buy ReTweets | Retweets starting at only $5. and have always had what I consider to be good results.

Are some of the fans/followers they send fake? Probably. But I have seen actual interactions from their followers so I know that some of them are real.

I would not advise anyone to purchase twitter followers. It does not look natural when you have just a few followers and then the next day you have 500 or 1000 followers. Companies claim that they are real people people but most of the time it is a scam. Provide engaging content and you will naturally start to build followers. This does not happen over night so be patient and in the long run you will be much better off.

Twitter is going to track down all accounts with "paid for" followers. That is coming soon. It just doesn't pay to buy followers. In the first place, it is not a good investment, and few of these are targeted. Secondly it has become very expensive. I used a program called twee adder for about a year. I tried to be judicious about it, but still got caught. They suspended 3 of my 4 accounts, including the one I used for branding! It is becoming increasingly hard to game the system anymore, and for my money, not worth it. I lost over 80,000 follower doing it....

Twitter has been updated to detect fake profiles and will simply delete them from your follower count after the profiles fail authentication via email or any of the other methods they have. Buying followers is fairly useless as you will actually want your tweets read.

Here's how I know this is untrue. I had a number of accounts that fell into disuse for 4-6 months after Twitter sued TweetAttacks. When I realized I had been neglecting those accounts I visited them and found Twitter had sent them messages saying they were emailing them but weren't receiving replies and asking for an update on the email account. I never replied to those emails from Twitter and all of those accounts are still active today. A few of those neglected accounts had been suspended and Twitter was emailing to say they were reinstated.

        Worthless?? I disagree!

My main Twitter account has over 50K followers. Google gives it a PageRank of 6. Any link that goes in that tweet stream is linking back from a PR of 6. I'm sure number of followers has a bearing on the pagerank. New accounts with a few followers certainly don't get that PR.

Every tweet that goes on there is given its own little website meaning a link that goes to my account is going on 50K websites connected to Twitter's PR of 9+.

I've done searches and had individual tweets related to the search show up.

I've found my content scattered through page after page of search results with links back from other sites that I had no knowledge of. Here's how they got it: They watched my tweets and scraped it. Twitter is possibly better than article submission.

6-8 months ago I bought 12,000 followers for an account I was building. Those followers are still on that account. Prior to buying those I turned off the autofollow feature in SocialOomph. After they were added I turned it back on. So much for Twitter deleting fake accounts. The follower count looks good: 11,000 followers; following 2000.

Problem: I can't get my site to rank for the phrase "credit report". Oh, I see the problem; my site doesn't have the phrase credit report even once on it. Contact my webmaster: 'Add the phrase "credit report" to my site.' Done! Do the search again; still not ranked/indexed. Tweet the site containing the phrase "credit report" to my 100K followers. Moments after tweeting a link to the site do the search again...there it is!! Now it's on the first page for the phrase "credit report".

I'm reading this thread looking for the latest info I'm headed off tomorrow to buy some more followers off Fiverr.

Almost nobody will follow an egg, and little will follow someone with a little audience. So in all fairness, it might be ok to buy a few thousands to get the basic legitimacy that some people will seek to follow you, but you will still need to invest a lot of time into building a crowd organically.

But don't overdo the fakes. They will need to be erased them at some point, and that takes time. Unless you don't mind the spam and the irrelevancy.

He bought 27,000 followers for 202$?? Wow, that guy probably never heard of Fiverr...you can easily get 10,000 for 5$

I think that the easiest way to get more followers is simply to follow people that are interested in your topic. And the only case where buying fake followers is useful, is when you reach a following limit.

For example if you have followed 2,000 and just 1,500 followed back, then you can't follow no more. But if you buy a few thousands of fake ones, then you are free to follow new people and gain new REAL followers.

There is only one reason to buy followers, and that's improve your perceived brand value. When people see you are following 5k people and 30k following back, it registers you as someone IMPORTANT in their minds.

However, all good things must come to a end. I have bought followers before and most of them disappeared within a week and I got them off of fiverr. They are companies that sell real followers, but you will pay a nice amount for them, they use services like tweetadder etc to mass follow people but that strategy is not instant but over a period of time.

You usually get what you pay for, if you spend $10 - $20 for some followers, not worth it. Real twitter follower companies charge upwards of $199+ just for 5,000 followers.

Sending social signals is extremely important with SEO nowadays, it shows Google that you have a quality site with interaction. But surely the wrong way is to artificially bolster this count with an army of uninvolved bots. Why not, if you're looking for an easy way, use Tweet Adder or just follow/unfollow lots in your niche. Going for pure numbers alone is silly, but it's a good way to "get the ball rolling"

After that post quality, engaging content, ENGAGE with your followers and don't plug your stuff too much, it's all relatively simple but takes some time (I use Outsourcers to find content - stumbleupon works best, and schedule everything via Hootsuite)

I just learned my biggest account is now a PR 3. I think a 50K follower account is now peanuts when compared with accounts w/ 150K+ hence the lower PR. I haven't been working it like I was.

I've concluded the only accounts you could have follow without having another account's password are ones you control. The only way to control them seems most likely to be to have created them in the first place. Tweet Attacks had an account creator before they got sued that could explain controlling huge amounts of accounts. I am pretty sure the assertion of Fiverr providers that they are "real" accounts is a misdirection. They are real alright; real Twitter accounts.

I made my second purchase here: twitterfollw3r's profile page on Fiverr.com Now offering 22K for $5 w/ a guarantee. 98% positive rating. Also, Fiverr allows multiple orders through him and his offer has a "Level 2" ranking; whatever that means. I think it means very few are complaining.

Level 2 in Fiverr means: "You made over 50 orders in the past two months while maintaining excellent ratings and a solid track record. You’ll automatically be promoted to Level 2, unlocking advanced sales tools to further expand your services and increase your sales. You’ll also receive priority support."

Hi, buying followers is a waste of money! It does not make any difference for SEO. The only "reasonable" reason for it maybe to fake certain reputation for someone for being an expert or something else.
The irony is that you can use facebook and twitter in a legit way and earn a lot of money. Just a few days ago I read a report on how to build your targeted list using twitter, and it was really awesome! I am going to try what I learned and see the result, but it seems that certainly it is very easy to make advantage from social media without faking anything!

Concentrate on striking up conversations with real people instead. Exchange ideas, dont spam them with links at least until the 4th-5th exchange.

Its because of all those other folk who purchased fake accounts that Twitter is close to useless for internet marketers today.

Buying followers isnt a good thing to do, you want engaged and targeted audiences everyone else is a waste of time and money, so having a 100k following on Twitter or Facebook or any other site may look cool but I would take my 3k of followers over them as they have taken work and engagement to achieve.

The other thing is Twitter ads will give you a more targeted audience if you do want to build them quickly and would represent much more value!

Buying Twitter followers is a BAD idea. Twitter seems to be cracking down as I've seen some accounts with thousands of followers (supposedly) become suspended. It's not about the number of fans or followers or even a Klout score(which I still don't see the relevance in) but how you engage and interact with them.
I have a client that has 35K Facebook Fans and nearly 3000 Twitter followers and we're mobilizing his base. On his page the percentage of people who are "talking about this" is over 80%. I usually see that ratio at about 1%-5%. That's leveraging social media and it's working because we took the time to be social and not just do social media.
You want a base that's going to do something like RT, comments...not just sit there like a bump on a log looking pretty.

Oh yeah, but to make significant difference you need 50x's that amount of followers.

Buying twitter followers is a total waste of money as they are all bots and can get your account suspended from Twitter if they think you have done so purposefully.

Purchased followers are rarely real people but the padded numbers may be more impressive to clients, etc. I still would not advise it, though

Yea, also, it is against Twitter's policy so if you get caught, your account may be banned or suspended. And, that would be a waste of money

On twitter it is all about mass following people in your niche. you won't be able to do that if you only have like 5 followers! twitter will automatically suspend your account. So please just buy some followers and then follow people that's how it's done. If you have any concerns please message me.

I bought 2k on ebay for £1.99. Gave my twitter a boost and now I'm getting between 30-50 real followers a day. The only use of twit bots is to give your page a appearance of authority. Remember why the Yankee's always win? The pinstripe! !!

there are instances that you may need to purchase followers but you have to make sure they are legit and very very high quality, this will be accompanied by an insane price but it will be worth in the end. Yes it is true the followers will leave you in time but what about the ones who follow the followers you have??? some will stay enough to let you pass the message you have.
To prevent all these massive exodus you will experience, getting your own real followers is worth more than even buying, just make sure you are providing something very good

I already mention on my previous post on "Buying Facebook likes".

There is no need to buy followers for your twitter page. Try to post anything that is relevant to your page or brand. Or it will really helpful for the people.
Basically when a person like a page he/she will share it with others. So the second person will become automatically your follower.

SocialMediaOwls is right you have to buy them in order to get pass the 2k limit to follow more than 300 real, targeted people a day! This is the only way to do effective Twitter Marketing nowadays!

Buying Twitter followers will not help you increase your engagement, traffic or sales. It will only help you increase the number of followers. Although people tend to follow and trust people with high following numbers but if they find that you followers are fake then they will drop you. It's better to add followers based on interest.

Also do you think buying followers is worth it for marketing purposes?

    xats.
Off course it worth I think.
In my opinion buying face followers is worthless. They will not stay forever. Will not give you a single $ benefit. Not even help you on SEO. There are lots of companies out there who can add targeted followers in your profile if you want to spend some$ for the followers. Try to get the targeted followers from them. It's better to having 5000 Targeted followers than 50K fake followers.
Because they are targeted to your company. For example you have a new product like Muscle booster. If you have 5000 followers from your targeted audience then you will easily get some sells from those followers.

The one good thing about buying or earning junk followers to your account (you can do it for free or paid via Twiends) is that it boosts your followers. With the +10% rule, it gives you an expanded buffer to follow others that actually would be interested in your account hoping that they also follow you.

Don't buy followers. Not worth it. Been there done that. It's best to grow your following organically with people who will contribute to what you're posting and so you can have good engagement.

Buying twitter followers is the closest thing to social media one night stand. You're going to look food at face value but sooner or later they'll bite you. Try using a content marketing software if you want to build your follower base fast. I use chimpmint for mine and it's working great so far.

There are real benefits to buying Twitter followers.
Firstly, as long as these followers look real, other people will think your account is popular enough to follow and will do so. If there are not many followers they will hesitate even if they see some good content, because of how people psychology works - they don't want to be the first, or the initiator, but they want to be a follower.
Secondly, Twitter places a limit on your following people. You can't follow not much more than the number of followers you have (this goes into effect once you follow more than 2000 people). So having for e.g. 3000 followers gives you that 'buffer' so that you can follow freely without hitting this restriction (there is still a daily technical limit of 1000 though, that you can follow on any given day).
Buying Twitter followers shouldn't be the be-all, end-all, single strategy, but an essential part of your set of strategies in growing your Twitter account. It is especially suitable for kick-starting your newly-created Twitter account.
With all these benefits I've described, you wouldn't exactly call $5 for 3000 followers a 'waste of money.'

This is something that is entirely dependent on your marketing strategy.

If you want to show social proof or present yourself as an authority but don't have the time to build a bunch of twitter followers than it's not necessarily a bad idea.

However, if you are doing it to develop a marketing asset, it may not help you at all as most of these followers are not interested in what you have to say. You're better off building them the old fashioned way with quality content that gets them interested enough

I won't recommend buying twitter followers because its not a right way to get followers. If you have great number of followers or likes on facebook that is not going to change your rankings or SEO so work hard on your marketing plan and try getting genuine followers and fans by your work.
