Confused about Pinterest

I am confused about Pinterest image copyrights.

I have just gotten off the phone with two stock image companies and found out they are both owned by Getty Images so the issue is mainly between Getty and Pinterest.

The only answers I received from both company representatives is not to use their images for Pinterest. They haven't reached an agreement with Pinterest yet.

I need images and I don't want to go out all over town and try to take them myself.

However, I live two blocks from a college campus so I could go over there and get some photography kids to do it for me with an ironclad contract that I will own the copyrights, but I'd rather just buy them online as I've been doing for my websites.

Any other suggestions?

The copyright laws with Pinterest and the terms of use don't seem too clear. The article, What You Should Know About Pinterest and Copyright make this obvious. I would just get the students to take some local pictures if that is all you need or just continue to buy them from the same places that you have before.

If Getty Images says not to use their images on Pinterest, THEN DON'T USE THEIR IMAGES ON PINTEREST. That clear enough?

There are a bazillion websites you can get just as good images from, if you're one of those people that purchase royalty-free images on a regular basis. Or, better yet, use your own camera to snap your own pictures. That way you know you own the copyright for sure.

Not too hard to solve there.

Thanks for your help with this.

I used to buy all my images from I Stock, but I think they're owned by Getty Images too. So far, I don't think they have made an agreement with Pinterest either.

So I'm going to take the safe route and take my own and hire the kids to do some too. I need images leading back to my website from Pinterest and I don't want any competition for the website links.

I know the rest of the links are just for building community so you can pin other people's content that go back to their sites and it's okay.

At least they're not charging us for the RSS feeds yet, like Facebook probably will.

Why should you stick to Getty images. If you Google "stock images" you would get thousands of websites that sell images which can still be used with Pinterest. I get all the images from Bigstockphoto.com to create the infographics for our company and for the clients. I have not had any problems with the copyright so far.
