Local Social Media Marketing

So I'm really...REALLY new to internet marketing. I've heard here & there people talking about doing social media marketing for local businesses, since most of them are pretty much clueless about how to use these media for promoting and building their business(es).

My question is: How does one go about doing social media marketing if you don't really know about that business?
What would one post on Twitter, Facebook, etc...not being an expert in the market???

Simply put, how would that work overall???

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I would suggest you find more relevant information about media for free to avoid to pay something that you don't like it.
But here on this forum you will find free eBooks. The best way to understand how it works is getting the free materials and read not once but couple times and then start doing the way they say. After that you will master it and then everything will be easy for you.'
Getting the answers you want right now will just confuse you, because you will just read and forget all about it. But if you download an eBook and read to learn.
I believe that it will be your best option.

Firstly, especially as a newbie a warn you about info products being sold online on social media marketing. Most of them look and sounds brilliant but don't do very well in practice. Also they not only cost you money, they consume your precious time which is a bigger loss in my opinion. This blogpost should give you an idea where to start.

Secondly, you MUST understand that Internet comes down to two things: traffic and conversion. This means, whatever path you choose you gotta be able to drive traffic to your offers. Once you got the visitor, client or whoever your task is to convert them in other words sell your product or service to them.

    Thanks for the replies.

I'm not looking to buy any products. It's just that I've heard people talk about handling the Facebook page of this or that local client.
These same people talk about seeking more local clients in order to handle their Facebook page.
I was simply looking for a brief explanation concerning how a person can handle the Facebook pages of random local clients without knowing much about the market of these clients.

For example: if a local pool cleaning company wants me to be in charge of their Facebook Fan Page, how do I know what to post on the page if I know NOTHING about cleaning pools?

      answer: Google.

Seriously, you research the subject and get to know the client's website and other marketing material. You get ideas from your client on what they would like to post and share. I work with an agency and we have been managing accounts for about 200 clients. We manage clients' Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google+, LinkedIn, and Pinterest accounts. It takes some time to research the client and get to know their business, and to be able to speak with their voice in social media... there's no magic answer. We have a questionnaire we send every new client to learn everything we need to know to get started, including the look and feel for the custom graphics we design, etc.

Social Media is about being social and not just focusing on the commercial part of the business. You build relationships by engaging with real people on behalf of your client.

  • The best thing that you should do is to know more about the business that you are going to market. There are a lot of ways, all you have to do is to keep on searching and do not stop reading related articles. There are a lot of free things that the internet can offer for you to have more knowledge about that certain business.
You don't really have to be an expert to do social media marketing, all you need is the eagerness to learn things as you move on with your stuff. That's it.

If you are looking for ways to do Social Media Marketing, then all you need to do is create pages on Social Media sites, build a connection with people you think can be your audience. Once you are connected with a good base of such people, start posting in interesting content, be it text, images or videos.

Make sure you do this regularly so that you are active enough for your readers to remember. Higher the frequency of posting, better will be the recall capacity of the reader. But the content should be great to keep the interest of the audience alive.

Social media marketing is not all about created the pages and profiles in all the popular spots and just posting any content. First you need to identify what type of media would be the best to target your audience in the particular social network. Let's consider Pinterest for example. If you are into real estate business, there is no point in posting motivational pictures. Instead you can post good pictures of the properties or create infographics related to your business and share them. Such content would go viral. One thing I have noticed over all these years of social media marketing is that, if you include images with any content when posting in the social media, the content goes viral...
