What's Your Social Media Strategy?

99.9% of people using social media don't have a strategy, they're just on there to socialize, kill time, or entertain themselves.

Without a sound strategy it's virtually impossible to achieve your goals. This is true with any area of life, but also social media.

Do you have a social media strategy? If so, what is it? Are you following a strategy you learned from someone else? Or is it something you came up with on your own?

I started using social media traffic, mostly facebook, a few weeks ago. From what I've read so far I got to the conclusion that the best strategy would be to create a facebook fanpage to your site and after that try to organize a contest to increase the number of likes.
After you get something like 1000 likes you can try to make some viral posts and get the fans keep on coming.

That's certainly one way to do it. Although just getting 1,000+ fans isn't going to produce many results. The key thing to do is to build a relationship with the few fans you have. Create lots of discussions on your page and it will grow automatically. Contests are good to attract people, but if they come to your page and don't immediately start receiving value they aren't likely ever to convert.

I totally agree. Social Media Marketing should focus on building relationships by interacting with people and providing useful information.

Post contents, videos or polls that everyone can share. Remember that people are there not to buy products and they also use Social Media as news feed.

Great comment Chris. I'll add that participating in the conversation is also important. You don't always have to post your own content (although you should do plenty of that), but build a loyal following through the conversations that take place across all of the various pieces of content you & your fans post. If you want to build a huge loyal following in a hurry that attracts people quickly, try to respond to every single comment you receive on your page. Ask questions in your response to stimulate more conversation. It won't take too long before you get so much action that you can't keep up with it...when that happens just be involved...it'll take off from there. The moment you quit, it starts to die...

Glad I came across yet another person that thinks this way. I ALWAYS get told I'm wasting my time trying to build "relationships" with people. Whether it involves a sale or not, I still like networking and building that relationship. Who knows.. 5-10 years down the line, it could definitely pay off.

Couldn't agree more; building relationships will create loyal fans and help things go viral.

  • In my opinion, being socially active is also helpful in social media marketing. I mean, it can also be the start of the strategy itself. Because of the very fact that too serious marketing tactics sometimes won't work, marketers had device new ways in order for them to gain the people's trust and that is when the socializing thing happen.

I agree with you. Social media is purely for leisure. Unless you have an active following that are like-minded. A majority of these people enjoy learning about celeb news, scandals, and any human interest stories that will amuse them or is worth spreading around. :p

My strategy is simply to get tons of followers and friends on all the big social media sites, and not spam them, but share with them often, particularly on Twitter. I have 30,000 Twitter followers on my largest account, and one tweet of anything gets a few views, and then I tweet again and again throughout the day, on that account, and about ten others, and my Facebook pages are ranking for searches, and the social sharing is beneficial for the rankings of the pages I'm sharing. I get more traffic from social media than Google, so long as I'm active and doing things. Some would say that random likes and followers don't work, but I can tell you they do, and I'm getting lots of views and making multiple sales daily through having a presence all over the place. Yeah to summarise, get tons of Twitter followers through Twiends, and tweet things with widespread appeal a lot, and then write a lot, have good SEO, make You Tube videos, join relevant discussions, etc. Check out my site if you need help with any of that stuff.

Yeah, I have a virtual assistant management company and of my views come from social media as well, but from people looking for jobs as virtual assistants. I would really like to be able to get prospect clients to like my Facebook page so I can interact with them. Most of the people now, just want a job.

Eventually thought, when I get the clients I can hire them hahaha.

Yes social media is based on conversation and informative posts and you can start with a couple of friends and hope it builds from there or you can really go after this massive audience with industry appropriate incentives, whether that is a promotion, discount or contest, etc., which creates immediate interaction in more ways than one but this is easier said then done. If this is implemented with the right processes/knowledge in place, you will have a viral marketing campaign in no time. I've used a couple of different companies to help me with social marketing strategies when I first started and they worked wonders.

Two thirds of my traffic for some of my sites come from Social Media marketing techniques.

I love it no cow towing to Google just lovely free traffic.

My strategy is to post regularly interesting content that engages in a way that will attract likes, shares, retweets, follows etc ... this creates growth in my followers.

    I ALWAY INCLUDE A LINK
I ALWAYS SEND PEOPLE TO A PAGE WITH EITHER A FREE OR LOW TICKET OFFER FEATURED SOMEWHERE ON THE PAGE.

Working nicely for me I get lots of signups to my email list which gives me some additional traction

Facebook is particularly good for me, I do sponsored posts viral images etc

Like you mentioned in your post, people are usually on a site like facebook to be entertained. Not to buy something. So the first and fore most thing I do is look for things that are funny. When a photo that is funny gets loads of shares and likes, I join the crow, share and like the photo as well. When people who are following you see something you posted that entertained them before, they will pay 10 times more attention to your next post and probably click a link if one is there. I also integrate one of my websites with all my social profiles, it allows me to show ownership for my domain and brand myself as a whole. Just the like feature alone brings my website daily traffic. When someone clicks the like on my site, it shows in their news feed that they liked my site.

It’s the kind of perplexing question many companies face as they formulate their thinking about social media. To understand how businesses are approaching the challenge, we analyzed strategies and practices at more than 1,100 companies across several industries and continents, and conducted in-depth interviews with 70 executives who were leading social media initiatives. Our research revealed four distinct social media strategies, which depend on a company’s tolerance for uncertain outcomes and the level of results sought.

It's good to know that you have identified those strategies. We'd all love to know what they are. Can you share any more info? Not the complete strategy, but at least give us the quick version you'd give a potential client?

Everyone has his own Idea of using Social Media as a traffic source.
Right now - I'm using Google+, FB, Twitter, Skyrocks for getting traffic in my landing pages.

In my post - " Way To Increase The Traffic For Landing Page " - I've described a method of using Social Media Marketing using skyrock. So that was my own method.

So everyone has his own method. No One is using social media without knowing anything!
