creative method to gain targeted facebook fans

There's a tactic on twitter I've been using which ended up being pretty effective. You can simply go to a popular twitter account in your niche and start following their followers. A certain percentage of them will follow you back. I didn't expect much from this tactic but it actually resulted in me gaining many more engaged followers.

I'm wondering if there's a way to do something similar on Facebook. Can I find a popular page with 200K likes in my niche and get the attention of their fans somehow? It's definitely not as easy as it is on Twitter, but there must be a creative way of doing this.

Would appreciate any tips or ideas.

    Not a very creative way but go to the fanpages in your list and actively comment on them and respond to questions (don't spam). If you're helpful, people will come and check out your page as well.

    Also, contact the fanpage owner and think of some kind of JV you could set up. Maybe a small fee like $50 a month in exchange for a banner on his page pointing to yours? Tons of unmonetized fanpages with unsavvy owners out there. And those $50 will get you more targeted, interested and engaged followers than dropping it on some "buy facebook fans" service.
