I am a newb at twitter. yes, never bothered with it. Haven't used it before but can really see the traffic aspect of this social media. However I have setup a test account on a certain niche to see what is possible.

To the masters of twitter, How the heck do you get a few hundred maybe a thousand followers on twitter besides the manual way of following people? And I'm not talking about how to make money from it or how to get them to your website. I just want to know of a way to get followers in the shortest time possible.

Is there a software to do this? Or a strategy to do this? Also, nothing that would get your account banned.

    Actually talk to people who are interested in your niche.

    That's the best way to get real, targeted followers.

    Read about what experts in your niche are talking about and ask them questions about it on Twitter. Join in discussions related to your IM (search "Twitter [niche] Chat" or something to that effect) by offering quality content for free.

    This is by no means a “fast” way but a very effective way to get followers is to participate on twitter and add valuable content. Think about why you might follow someone or why anyone would follow anyone else in general. It is typically because a follower sees the person they are following as adding some type of value. For example a person practicing SEO may follow people influential in that industry because those influencers are posting good content that they can use in their professions.

    So think of a way to add value to those you are targeting and then interact using your account. Retweet and favorite others’ tweets. Share valuable content and you will gradually build a following.

    There are a lot of people out there offering scripts or services that will get you followers fast however these are typically low quality or even fake accounts that will provide you with little value.

      I just cracked 1000 followers on Twitter at the end of 2012/beginning of 2013 and I started my professional Twitter campaign in late September of 2012.

      I post quality content dailly, I engage with my fans, followers and influencers daily. Bottom line...you HAVE to give value.

    As well as the suggestions above, don't forget to write a good bio for your profile so that you'll come up when users search for people to follow in your niche.

    You should also add yourself to a few Twitter directories like Twellow and Wefollow - again it helps people find you more easily.
