Pinterest - how a board with 13pins has 3,000,000 followers??

Does anyone have any idea how boards with 29 pins have more than 1,000,000 followers?

For example this board: Elephants
has 13 pins and more than 3,000,000 followers.

    That board has that many followers because the owner of the board has many other boards with many other followers. And most people don't know that you can follow boards separately so they choose to click the button that says follow all boards. Then whenever they create a new board, all those people that clicked "follow all", are now subscribed to the new board.

      What's the meaning of following board ? For Example: When I follow someone on twitter I get their tweetes, but I don't get anything when I follow a board. I've lost count of the boards I follow and I actually don't know which boards I follow.
      What difference does it make to the boards creator if I follow the board but don't get any updates about new Pin in this board and I don't even view it.

    He used the method of "re-pins", then followed them, most re-followed... a lot of people use this method..

      I don't think this method was used in this case. Note the 7MM followers he has, but is following under 1K people. He also only has like about 2K other pins from other people. He does have 20K+ pins...but I am unsure if the 7MM followers we from that, or purchased in bulk.

        They probably purchased the followers.

        There's a lot of people selling Pinterest followers or followers for pretty much any social media site whether it be Twitter or Facebook friends.

        I would suspect with those numbers the followers may have been purchased.

    Actually he was among first pinners to join pinterest, members who joined pinterest before mid 2011 got many followers, as any member joined he was made followers to these people automatically, even today these old guys keep on getting followers that way, cuz they have reputation, content and they have been sticking there for long

      It pays to be the first person (in your niche) using a site. Many people still don't use Google+ so that site is still wide open to niches.

    I think they must have bought the followers. It is pretty much difficult to get these many followers when the board just has 10-15 pins and also the board looks inactive as it has been their for a year with just 10-15 pins.

    Hello.

    It means that he created that board when he was at 3m followers. When you create new board then all your account followers will be that board followers but people who follow your specific boards will not counted as new board follower.
