Which Social Media site has been the most beneficial for you? Why?

I do not know much about SEO to get my site ranked high with google, I am still learning so for now I focus a lot on social media marketing. I tend to be pretty good at that for some reason and recently my work has taken a bit of a jump start which is great.

Anyways I've noticed that in this social media section of WF, a lot of the same questions are being repeated ("How to get more FB likes", "How to get more twitter/pinterest" followers" etc).

I figured why not let it all out here on one thread to help everyone out.

So with that said;

What social media sites have been the most beneficial to you?

What were your goals with that social media site?
(ex. With FB, maybe your goal was to get a lot of likes which you could convert to your list)

What methods did you use to achieve your goal(s)?

For me Facebook has been the best so far. My goal was or rather still is to get a lot of likes to help spread the word of my website and get more traffic. I have achieved this goal but not to the degree I want. I am still working on it but my page grows with every passing day.

For the past three weeks, I have been using Pinterest and I have to say Pinterest is a fairly easy way to get traffic to your site, squeeze page etc. In the past two weeks I have gotten a couple hundred visitors from Pinterest. With Pinterest I am getting a couple of new followers a day with probably 5+ repins for every picture I upload which is about 5-10 a day. It's not a lot but I haven't put a lot of effort into Pinterest yet.

For the past week and a half or so I have been trying out Instagram. I've gained 24,000 followers since I joined and I've only uploaded about 15 pictures. In the next few days I will post links of my site on a few of the pictures I upload to see if I can make Instagram benefit me.

I've thought of a few out of the box ideas when it came to FB and they haved worked pretty well for me. I am currently brainstorming on a few technique regarding Pinterest and Instgram, if I see good results then I will definitely let you all know.

I look forward to reading all of your different methods and opinions.

Pinterest and Instagram are very useful, I been doing SEO for about 4 years and I have ranked high is a number of search terms for many sites.... If you want my advice.. utilize youtube a little more... its Key in SEO, many do not know it.. but many videos come up first in google search results... My videos come up in relatively high competition key words!

    Cheers,

    1. It is tough to say the popular networking sites. just analyze the statistical data of all networking sites

    2. Analyze which Social networking sites your customers or audiences spend most of the time there you promote yourself.

I use Social Media for networking, rather than marketing. With this in mind LinkedIn is hands-down the best available tool.

I have to agree with this, mainly because they're the biggest social media networks out there and a LOT of people use them.

I've found that, since I am a B2B business owner, LinkedIn Groups has proven the most useful social media platform for my content marketing efforts. I can choose exactly which Group gets which piece of content, meaning I know it is getting in front of the right audience. Because my content is hitting the right target I'm ultimately sending more qualified traffic back to my site and getting more social shares. Every business is different though so you need to test each platform out to see what works best for you and your audience.

It depends a lot on your niche and target. Usually I recommend Facebook, Youtube and Twitter but now, depending on the niche, Pinterest and Instagram are starting to make a difference.

For conversion, go for Facebook. Build a strong community. Do not focus only on numbers of fans, it's a classic mistake an will get you frustrated. Engage your audience, make your content worthy of being shared, do not be too much commercial, be conversational, engage your fans by connecting with them. Than, you will see Facebook's true power. Good luck.

this is a good advice, it's very important to interact with your audience and try to be more helpful, and this is why it named social media.

One should bare in mind that social media’s come and go. I read somewhere Google is releasing a new one called Circle around 2Q 2011. I don’t hear much about buzz any more and where do all the old face book, twitter posts go?
I see it as a short term immediate investment. For that reason I question it’s ROI for many industries even though I have seen it work for people like open source CMS software developers.

I understand what you mean, it really depends a lot in your target. Twitter is my number one traffic source for a news/ statistical data page I manage but it brings no traffic for other pages; it's a learning/adapting process all the time.

I have to say that Linkedin, is by far and away the most Productive for me, in terms of Income Earned.

Twitter is good for sending Traffic to my site.

Facebook, is not as hot, as people only click the 'Like' Button, few Comment on it

You Tube is good as well, but is down the pecking order for me.

I would say Instagram; although it's a newbie within the realm of the social media, but still it has already hit the digital marketing strategy like a storm, plus statistics shows that there has been a drastic increase with the Instagram users. Also, I think that facebook and twitter is way too crowded already that people would often oversee your posts, unlike in Instagram where your photos are well organized and you can actually add hashtags together with your caption, to gain likes and eventually followers, and ultimately sales leads.

I completely agree with other comments. Facebook, Pinterest is great channel for bringing free website traffic. That is, if you’re doing them correctly! Twitter and Google plus is beneficial if we belong to some reputed organizations or brand.

At first, none of the social media sites were good enough for me. In fact, it was just like "winking at a girl by standing in the dark". I knew what I was doing, but the audience did not. I was mainly sharing text content which came from SEO news articles. Later, I changed the content which I used with social media and the magic worked. Instead of sharing text news content, I started creating cool infographics related to SEO along with SEO quote images. Such content went viral in the social media and then the fruit of social media marketing started to kick in. We got new fans, followers, pinterest followers etc.

My point is that, it is not the social media site that decides the effectiveness, but it is the type of the content.

Twitter. Make your tweets an attention grabber by writing things which are interesting to the community. Be on the look out for hot topics and be ready to post the article in your blog. Members of the twitter community will be truly interested with you and what you have to say. They will soon drop by your site or blog once you have announced to the community what you have written.
