How to locate the original source of images (super useful social media trick!)

Hi everyone,

I've been using this trick constantly since I discovered it and if you haven't checked it out already I recommend it. You can use it to:

• Locate the original source of images you find online (i.e. so that you can contact them re: image use permission)
• Locate other images in the same photo set or "visually similar" (this is fun)
• Find out who a person is from their photo (scarily accurate!)
• See if anyone has stolen (or shared) YOUR images
• See if there is a higher resolution version of an image file that you like but is too small / grainy to utilize.

Google Images now has a "search by image" feature that enables you to do this.

In the right hand side of the search box, there is a small camera icon. Click it and it allows you to upload an image file. The Goog then scans this file and returns results based on it. Super cool!

When you get to the results page, you can see which was the "first" of the google results to upload this image by clicking "search tools" and then "custom range". Mess around with the custom range to see who copied who!

You can also choose the highest resolution version from the set displayed.

Here's Google's official support page on the search by image feature:

Here's the kicker: Finding out who has shared your images can be a GREAT link building technique. You can contact them and inform them that you are the owner of the copyright and that if they want to continue to use the image, please link as follows___________
